Brent Gerrard reports on our speaker Meng Foon.

A recording of Mr Foon's presentation can be found at the end of Brent's report.
Our speaker this week was Race Relations Commissioner Meng Foon. He covered a number of areas of interest but I thought the main message from this talk was that we shouldn’t be afraid of the recent changes in sharing power with the whenua of Aotearoa. He referenced a number of scenarios where we cede our own self determination in the belief that we can build something better if we join together with others – build a family as a couple, build a great place to live as a community, build a better country when we put the interests of others ahead of our own and help to bring the others up rather than hold them down. Aotearoa will be a better place if our indigenous people can have more influence on decisions made that will help to improve their well being – surely we have to try.
