This morning RCPN meeting attendees received a talk from Finn Messerli – representing Generation Zero (a climate advocacy organisation).

Finn is an alumni of Onslow College & Victoria University (BSC physics major). Among other awards received,  in 1988 he won The Prime Ministers Future Science Prize, putting the $50,000 prize into his tertiary education.  Finn joined Generation Zero 3 years ago. This youth lead group was started in 2011 and has a focus on climate change and community building - based on the premise that developing a collective power not only brings people together but is also more effective politically in achieving climate change (primarily through submissions). A major achievement was the groups drafting of the Zero Carbon Act. Its ultimate vision is for zero emissions.  Generation Zero in Wellington has its main funding through the Wellington Community Trust and donations. It has one paid employee (admin). In NZ it has regional branches in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin.
