This week was a meeting amongst members to discuss matters concerning the Club. The discussion was well led by President Jo who provided each table with topics for discussion- communication, the bulletin, evening meetings trial as well as the fee increase.
Communication – general feeling of the meeting was this was at a good level – it needed to be regular, informative and brief. The suggestion to hold another meeting for newer members on the role of the Club and the opportunity to listen to ideas and expectations of the new members.
Bulletin - The feedback on the quality of the Bulletin was positive. One suggestion is that the duties be on a rolling 4-week basis so members could see if and when they were required to perform a duty. It was suggested the Bulletin had news from other Clubs to encourage greater collaboration and to share ideas on projects. Opening and Parting Thought could be included in the Bulletin if possible. The President Report, including feedback on Board meeting where appropriate, would be valued by
members.
Evening Meetings – this proposal to trial evening meetings (one per month) was discussed and in general there was support for the trial. Obvious questions were raised – Venue – it will be at The Wellington Club 5:30 for 6pm start – closing at 7pm. Food and bar – under discussion but most not favouring a meal, preferring finger food. The cost – suggesting it would be the same cost – and inviting via Club Runner to confirm attendees. It is agreed that this timing may attract new members.
Fees The second part of the meeting was to table the resolution to increase in annual members levies to $290 pa. commencing 2025/6 year. An excellent summary document had been circulated to members which outlined the need for the increase based on increased levies from Rotary International and District.
There was a concern that the increase could have a negative impact on membership. Other types of membership need to be considered (e.g. Corporate membership). The Resolution was put to members and was agreed.
Brent Gerard (District Governor Nominee) encouraged all members to consider attending the District Changeover in Palmerston North 24 May to gain a better understanding of the possibilities of our Club serving the community. This included gaining a better understanding of the way our Club could access District and Global Rotary Foundation grants in the future.
