Chaffers New World
8.30am to 5.30pm
The Rotary Club of Port Nicholson has been asked and we have agreed to support the Samaritans by collecting for them on Wednesday 7th of October at our usual haunt of the New World Chaffers. Collection is from 8.30am to 5.30pm in increments of one hour. If you could spare an hour to collect for this very worthy cause it would be greatly appreciated. Please sign up below.
As you know the Samaritans perform a vital task of providing a voluntary crisis mental health phone line and have operated in the crypt under St Paul’s Cathedral since 1966.
Samaritans is unique in several respects; it is exclusively a listening organisation where people very early in their mental health journey ring to share their mental health concerns seeking the solace of a trained and empathic listener. There is no naming, shaming or blaming just patiently listening and there is no specified time limit for the call.
There are many reasons why people call, loneliness and depression being predominant factors. Samaritans mission is to reduce suicide. Sadly its services are needed now more than ever.

We need to cover 9 hourly shifts starting 8.30am to 4.30pm. While 1 person per shift is required 2 make it more fun.
