Our speaker this week Dr Melanie Young - Osteopathy and voluntary support for children in need.

Our speaker this week is:

Dr Melanie Young

Osteopathy and Voluntary Support for Children in Need

Melanie studied to become an osteopath at RMIT University in Melbourne, graduating with Distinction in 1997. She then joined City Osteopaths in 1998 and became the director in 1999 because she wanted to work in a well run practice.

She has over 45 years experience in dance, Tai Chi and Pilates. She draws on these foundations, combining them with gentle treatment approaches, including Functional, Counterstrain, Cranial & Biodynamic Osteopathy, to effectively treat a wide range of ages and conditions.

She started studying Biodynamic Osteopathy in 2002 with Dr Jim Jealous, completing all nine phases. She has since taught and lectured in Biodynamic Osteopathy internationally.

She has a clinical focus in providing gentle effective  Biodynamic Osteopathy for people of any age with past major physical trauma especially concussion recovery.

She is very experienced in supporting individuals through pregnancy, preparation for labour, recovery post birth, babies and children. Melanie also has a passion for working with people undergoing Orthodontics and enjoys treating the Temporo-Mandibular Joint (TMJ) and other mechanical issues of the cranium such as sinus, tongue problems (in babies or adults) or ear infections.  Her goal is to listen carefully to what your goals are and provide the best possible care. She loves to help you move freely again, pain-free.

In her spare time Melanie volunteers at the Osteopathic Children's Foundation Charitable Trust (OCF). The Trust is an organisation dedicated to providing free osteopathic services to children across New Zealand. Founded in 2018 by a group of passionate individuals, including senior osteopaths and a commercial lawyer, the OCF aims to remove financial barriers that prevent children from accessing osteopathic care.
