Farewell Gillian

Gillian’s funeral was standing room only, and a lovely service befitting the wonderful woman she was. We have donated $100 to the City Mission from our Club in her memory.

Speaker
Our speaker Serge Van Dam was fascinating. AI produced his power point slides on the spot with just a few bullet points as a guide. A lot of questions ensued showing how much interest there is in this field which is way over my head.

Club forum
Our meeting on 14 May is the Club forum where we will be discussing communications, and holding a Special General Meeting regarding the raising of annual subscriptions. The more people who attend the better the discussions will be.

Trying something new-

Port Nic rotary evening meetings once a month

From July we are going to trial having a rotary meeting one Wednesday evening a month. The meeting format will remain the same, except we will start at 5.30pm rather than 7am.

This idea came from one of our younger members David Quinn who sees it as an opportunity to bring potential new members in straight from work. We also thought it might appeal to people who have retired and prefer a later start than 7am.

Farewell to Winston

On Wednesday we gave Winston a card, a reference, and some cash to wish him well for his move to Brisbane where he will be joining a lot of family members who already live there. We will miss his wonderful smile, laugh and fabulous service.

On Wednesday 7 May, we had a presentation titled "Wellington's going-global software/ SaaS sector - threats and opportunities in the era of AI" by Serge Van Dam, director/ investor/ founder of many high-tech companies. Serge is originally from Argentina, and now lives in Wellington with his family.
