Have you paid for your subs and breakfasts?
Our club funds are $2,019 in arrears due to some members not having paid their subs and/or breakfast meeting accounts. This is disappointing, but at the same time we are concerned that some people maybe financially compromised at the present. Please, feel free to contact Linda or Jo Douglas in the strictest confidence so we can come to an agreed arrangement. Linda will be addressing this at next week’s morning meeting.

Neil Thornton

Neil Thornton is an award-winning comedian, MC, writer, and life-long teacher. He's a regular at The Classic in Auckland, produces dozens of Wellington comedy shows, and appeared in the TV3 comedy special "After Hours." In 2017 he founded the NZ Comedy School, helping a wonderfully diverse array of people find their unique voices through the art and craft of stand-up comedy.

Willy wonka- fun filled Saturday lunch

Joy Durrant organised another great opportunity for members to socialise and support the Wellington hospitality industry. This time it was at Beach Babylon's Willy Wonka lunch as part of Wellington on a plate. What a cheerful way to spend a Saturday afternoon. Thank you Joy.

Thoughts from President Jo

On Sunday 1 September, I fly off to Malta and France for the month. I am so very grateful to Linda, Mike, Peter, and Marc who will be hosting our Wednesday meetings, and to Tony who will Chair the Board meeting in my absence. It is my intention to write a brief report for each bulletin, and to try and visit at least one Rotary Club whilst away.
This morning, I have read that there is to be a ceasefire in Gaza so that children can be immunised against polio, as one child has contracted the disease, and of course no immunisation has occurred since October last year. There was no mention at all of Rotary in the article, such a shame.
Have a wonderful September, hopefully the weather is spring like. See you on 3 October.

We are rekindling our relationship with Plimmerton Rotary. In past years we visited one anothers' clubs and are keen to recommence this custom. They recently had a visit from our Club members encouraging them to join the 'Lifting the Lid;' programme.

Date : Tuesday 10 Sept

Time: 6 for 6.30 pm start

Speaker: Michael Quigg

(6 years on the Parole Board and 10 years chairing the Law Society Committee)

Venue: Mana Cruising, Pascoe Ave, Mana.

Cost: $30 - with a cash bar

A good deal of interest was shown this week at our meeting. Partners are welcome. Howard needs to advise Plimmerton Rotary of numbers attending by Friday 8 September.

This week the team presented Lifting the Lid to the Eastern Hutt Rotary, and got a wonderful response, see below...

'I want to express my sincere thanks for the time you all put into the preparation, and delivery, of your presentation last Monday, and the support provided from Bill and Andy. I know that you are all very busy people, so we are very grateful. I believe that you all did a great job to convince our Club of the merits of 'Lifting the Lid'. Thank you. Everyone eats- Jack Rainey

Our speaker this week, Jack Rainey from the Restaurant Everybody Eats, began by talking a little about our food system. The dichotomy is that New Zealand produces more food than our population can consume yet one in five New Zealanders face food insecurity every day. Too much of the food we produce is wasted and goes to landfill and its degradation creates greenhouse gas and harms the planet.
