With the first 3 of the 5 days of the National Shakespeare Globe Centre NZ University of Otago Sheilah Winn Shakespeare Festival (SGCNZ UOSWSF) completed, special thanks to Marc and Ann Rands, Tony Robinson and Jane Paterson for being there today, alongside our colourful captioned photographic exhibition taken by a previous recipient of a RCPN grant. Although there was little interaction with those present, the Rotary banner spread across the table was a visual presence of the organisation. Some of the selected groups and individuals do receive grants from their local Clubs to get to the event. As Eden found, there may be a way we can turn this into more of an interactive time. Food for thought. It was lovely to see Bob and Elaine Moffat who had come to
watch, in spite of being in the middle of selling their house.

Most of all, it is wonderful to see the effervescence and enthusiasm of the young people, relishing the opportunity to be involved in an event with such positive outcomes is refreshing, when the media is so full of the negative activities in which too many are involved. It is frustratingly difficult, as we know, to get even our Goal Setters much publicity, nor about those who have benefitted from RYLA and RYPEN. Certainly, all that Guy Ryan is and has done, as we heard last week, is worthy of much more coverage.

With its new Editor requesting thoughts and ideas of changes in The Post, there is an opportunity for framing up a submission to reflect these.

Congratulations to David (S) and Richard for securing yet another school to join to the 8 joined up to Lifting the Lid – an exceptionally necessary programme. Just today the Kuranui College students were speaking of the effect them on at the tragic loss of a fellow student to suicide last week…much less the desperately sad loss of the Whangarei Boys’ High School student who drowned in a cave and the effect on his peers.

With tree planting postponed because of pending weather tomorrow, here’s a chance to do something uplifting instead!

Dear Dawn and Members,

Thank you for your letter of 17 May in which you advise of Rotary Club of Port Nicholson’s new fundraising priorities for the year ahead.

Wellington Hospitals Foundation Trustees and I, along with the entire Te Wao Nui Child Health Team in our wider region, are immensely grateful for your club’s support and considerable contribution towards outfitting and equipping our new regional hospital, Te Wao Nui, over the last 5 years. 

On a personal note, I am immeasurably proud of our Club’s fundraising efforts, which will significantly improve child health outcomes for thousands of kiwi kids across our wider region.  Regular feedback from the Te Wao Nui team attests that the two Whānau Rooms are a game changer for families spending long periods in hospital with their young tamariki and Rangatahi. Your support is hugely humbling.

Port Nicholson Rotary have had a long association with our Hospitals Foundation and Wellington Childrens Hospital. 

My WHF Board and staff wish the Rotary Club of Port Nicholson all the very best for their future fundraising endeavours and we look forward to partnering again as a long standing Charity Partner of Wellington Hospitals Foundation.
