President Nicole
I hope you all had a lovely break over Easter. We had 4 generations of our family together enjoying the Hawkes Bay sunshine and activities which was very special.
New Members
This week we are very much looking forward to inducting two new members to our club - Simon Warbuton and Aparna Duney.
Rotary leaders monthly meeting
Tony Robinson ran an excellent monthly meeting again last week for the club presidents of our region. We discussed the future changes to the Rotary regions in New Zealand, the Rotary Epic day and the new Community Hospital in Wellington Central. We will look at ways we can get involved in the latter two.
Extraordinary Ocean Swimmers
It was inspiring to listen to the highs and lows of ocean swimming last week from Grainne Moss and the life lessons that she has learnt along the way- there was something for us all. ( See below for report if you missed it.) It gave us an insight into the huge achievement of Jono Ridler world record breaking 1400 km swim which finished in Wellington on Saturday to raise awareness of bottom trawling fishing.
Rotary and our partners commemorate World Immunization Week, 24-30 April every year, to raise awareness of the importance of vaccination and highlight the success of our polio eradication efforts.
World Immunization Week is quickly approaching! Has would you like our club to observe this important public health event?
Would you like to get more involved in our club?
We have the following opportunities available.
Goal setters Committee
This is our signature event that has been running for 35 years. Get involved with the selection process and behind the scenes event management. Time commitment- an average of 1-2 hours a week- November to March, with no work required over the xmas break.
Roster
A great way to get to know the members of the club. Organise the roster for the weekly meetings. This ensures the meetings are well run and everyone has the opportunity to take part. Time commitment-15-20 minutes a week.
Bulletin
We would like to broaden the team of editors that produce the bulletin to 3 -4 people members. This is excellent opportunity to understand the club. Time commitment- 2 hours every 3 or 4 weeks.
Welfare officers
Thank you to Howard and Andre who are our welfare officers. If members are away from rotary for 3 weeks or more (and have not put in a leave of absence) they are contacted by Howard or Andre. We know everyone one gets busy with work and life commitments, but we also want to enure if members are unwell we are keeping in touch. Thank you to you both for doing this important role.
Born in Northern Ireland and now living in New Zealand, Gráinne Moss captured the attention of the world in 1987, becoming the first Irish woman to swim the English Channel, at just 17 years of age. Moss’s story is one of resilience, endurance, and achievement, both as a swimmer and in public life.
This week we had presentations from 3 youth speakers Charlotte, Emma and Mugundhan These come from our group of sponsored attendees to RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) and the Rotary Science Forum held in Auckland.
If you are rostered for a duty and cannot make it, please arrange for someone to take your place and let Nicole know at Nicolebarker883@gmail.com or 027 5866666
