Alexandra Lutyens, a Senior Innovation Specialist, from Creative HQ came to talk to us about their 50Up programme for entrepreneurs over 50.
She emphasised that over 50”s have so much experience that should be brought into the innovation space.
By 2034 60% of the population will be over 60. Investment has, up until now, been in the 40’s age group but older people are more likely to solve pressing social problems and they
are more successful because they have more experience and passion. The 2024 50Up programme was held in Auckland earlier this year and was for people over the age of 50 who want to make a difference. Those
looking to start a pakihi / business or develop a new business idea were invited. This 8 week programme was for individuals with drive, energy and confidence to learn skills and explore professional coaching support
to help them achieve their next level of success. CreativeHQ want to get support and finance to continue this programme in 2025. Wellington’s Creative HQ, which has helped support more than 450 other companies, won the Supreme Award at the Post 2024 Gold
Awards. They are on a mission to create 400 active and thriving high-growth companies by 2030, essentially four times their current start up activity, which they predict will create 3000 new jobs.
There is opportunity for us as 50+ to be entrepreneurs and we have to get to grips with AI!!
