Trustee Trails Wellington
"Building off road cycle trails in Wellington"
Matt is a Trustee for Trails Wellington, whose aim is to develop the city’s off-road cycle trails and provide support for the community groups that build the trails.
They see that growth of the Wellington cycle trails community adding momentum to the city’s economic, community and environmental renaissance. It is an impactful, cost effective and immediate way to enhance Wellington as a vibrant, liveable, cohesive and prosperous city.
Trails Wellington want to build a hero trail that will not only benefit our community and local businesses but also put our beautiful backyard firmly on the map.
Three days to go now and very much looking forward to seeing everyone again.
First, an explanation of the 2 photos. In 31 degrees heat it seemed appropriate to have a lemonade stand which was eagerly supported by parents, friends, neighbours and passersby. Even the local volunteer firefighters stopped for refreshment. It ended up like a street party, and Eloise, aged 5, raised $61…quite the young entrepreneur.
I enjoyed the cheese sign in Nevada City as it was an important mission to get some appropriate cheese to go with a glass of chilled white wine and be reminded that age is irrefutably a strength!
A very big few weeks coming up for our club with the Auction Dinner on 6 October. One of the biggest keys to success is for Paula and her Committee to know that the whole Club is behind them, so a very big thank you wonderful people. It will be a memorable night and we have 3 very special Charities to support.
As you know after the auction is over, we are going to have 4 weeks where everyone is encouraged to bring someone new to a Rotary breakfast. Have you thought of someone yet?
Special thanks to Dawn, Peter and Paula who have presided over breakfast meetings in my absence. Greatly appreciated.
My last thought is on behalf of everyone to send love and best wishes to Hayley with a significant addition to the family imminent!

Port Nicholson Rotary Club's Annual Charity Auction
It's going to be a wonderful evening and the committee has been meeting weekly to make sure the evening is a success.
Last week's meeting there were several apologies due to members being overseas. Here we all are at 7.30am at the Sofitel enjoying some lovely goodies supplied by Raymond - thank you so much Raymond for all that you do for the committee and the club. We have some fun, but we work hard too!

Time is running out to secure your ticket for the upcoming Virtual conference, being held in late October.
With a speaker list jam-packed, audiences will hear inspirational stories from business and community leaders and experts in their fields.
Key note speakers include Rotary International President Gordon R. McInally and Rotary International President-elect Stephanie Urchick.
Registration costs will be $25 per Rotarian or Rotaractor.
Once the Auction is done and dusted, we will be having a membership drive.
President Tony requests that every member think about an acquaintance who may have a Rotarian deep down within and invite them along to a meeting.

Interact Visit to WFA
A number of Port Nicholson Interact members recently visited Wellington Free Ambulance, HQ, Davis Street in Thorndon. They were hosted by Operations Manager, Eric Tibbott and members of staff, Alex and Daniel. They were shown around the facility, the fleet and given a history of the free nature of Service and the work carried out by the WFA. They also learned about volunteering and career opportunities offered by WFA and played with the lights and siren!
Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) 2024
Applicants are sort from suitable young people (18-24 years) for the Rotary Youth Leadership Award in the latter half of January 2024.
RYLA is a five-day intensive, high energy, challenging, residential programme to develop young
leaders from District 9940. The RYLA programme recognises, encourages and educates current and future leaders by offering them an intensive leadership experience with the cooperation of
community and culture organisations, businesses, local and national leaders.
RYLA is an invaluable programme that brings together individuals to harness creativity, diversity,
inspiration, energy and leadership to cultivate personal growth and develop meaningful personal
change and harnessing their leadership potential.
