Last week, a group of Rotarians met at Darryl's for a very well executed Christmas pot luck dinner, complete with ham and new potatoes. It seemed everyone enjoyed themselves, the company and the food, and unexpectedly the sun popped out again, so we could enjoy dining al fresco, with beautiful views of the Mirimar golf course and Lyall Bay.
A huge thank you to Heather, Louise, and Philippa for their superb organisational skills and Darryl for opening his home to us on the day.

Dementia Wellington needs help
Dementia Wellington works hard to support people with dementia and their carers, family and whanau in Kapiti, Porirua, Wellington and the Hutt Valley.
They rely heavily on donations to support the delivery of their community services. DHB funding covers about 50% of their budgeted income, the remainder they have to raise through grant applications, donations and events. Covid-19 has severely impacted their fundraising, less money is available through gaming trusts due to lockdowns and they have had to cancel planned events.
Usually RCPN would support Dementia Wellington's street appeal, so they have reached out to us for other help. Please share the links below with your networks, or make a donation yourself.
January is Vocational Service Month. This is an opportunity to think about how your club and district do vocational service. In bringing together people from diverse professions and backgrounds, Rotary recognizes the importance of all skills and occupations. In Rotary, your professional life and vocational service can work together. Members have a responsibility to represent their occupations within their club and to exemplify the ideals of Rotary in their workplace.

The Waitangi market roster has changed
It was determined that the three hour shifts are too long. This means that we now need six people per weekend to cover the three shifts.
You can find the new timetable in the members section of the club website under Volunteers – Signup.
The three shifts are now:
7.30am – 9.30am
9.30am – 11.30am
11.30am – 1.30pm
The changes will take place from 9 Jan 2022, the first market of the new year. There is one slot open on the 9th Jan, from 11.30-1.30pm.
Please look at your diaries and sign up for what you can do. It’s pretty simple work and full training will be given on the job.

We held a club forum
But what happens at Club Forum stays at Club Forum. The board sincerely hope that anyone and everyone who had concerns and challenges with aspects of club membership took the opportunity to air these and discuss them as a club. It is important that we look after each other and grow together.

New Zealand’s Rotary Centenary year: News item from New Zealand 100 years ago:
Waikato times, 13 December 1921: Housing matters. Wellington.
The House of Representatives spent most of this afternoon discussing housing matters in connection with the annual report of the Labour Department. Members had a good deal to say about the shortages of houses, but did not throw any new light on the subject.
We had a useful meeting on 6 December and agreed to pilot the establishment of Club Welfare Officers to help members in distress or requiring support, and to ensure newer members are engaged with the club.
Linda Wellington and David Barnes have been appointed in the new positions. The purpose of their role is to be a contact point for members who may be unwell or experiencing distress and who would like Club support. This can include phone calls, visits, etc. They are also the point of contact for members to alert the Club to welfare issues. Welfare officers are discreet and focused on giving solicited assistance while respecting privacy.They can receive discreet feedback on the Club and any areas of concern members have. They will also keep in touch with newer members who those who haven't come tp many meetings.
The Club will also be supporting the District’s "Million Masks" project, which aims to help our communities most in need here in New Zealand and in the Pacific. This will be through the donation of up to 1 million masks to these communities & the education of how masks can help reduce the spread of COVID-19. $500 from the Rotary Club of Port Nicholson Trust will contribute to the District project.
The future looks good!
