We've been combatting climate change!

The sun shone for the second round of tree planting, hosted by Lisa and the Friends of Tawa Bush. Over 100 trees were planted, with Rotarians, Interactors and Rotaractors all assisting the Tawa Bush group of volunteers. A fantastic effort!

~ This week's speaker ~
 Richie Hill
Paper Street Tree Co. was founded in 2013 by Richie Hill. Richie’s vision for the company is to provide solutions for clients and organisations, so that they can realise more value from their tree assets.

Richie has been dealing with trees and people in the built environment for most of his career. Beginning as a professional arborist, he now provides consultancy services for councils, infrastructure companies and other organisations.

Trees provide in-part solutions to some of the challenges we face. To successfully meet these challenges, collaboration and partnerships are needed. PS works collaboratively with all affected parties so that deliverable outcomes can be achieved.

Richie will be speaking to our club about Collaboration and greenwashing

The RI conference next year will be held in Melbourne!

Breakout sessions can help inspire other attendees to create new ideas for projects, fundraising, strengthening membership, and more! Help us build a breakout program that celebrates all Rotary has to offer.

Waitangi Markets

We have two more opportunities to raise money for club projects by operating the carpark at the Waitangi markets on Sundays 4 and 11 September. We will need seven people for each Sunday and our efforts should net us $300 - $400 a week, now that the weather is improving and more shoppers come to the market.  Please  look at your diaries and be prepared to help out.
With thanks.  John Bishop

From the President...

It was great to hear Rick’s report on attending the House of Grace AGM, and how grateful they are of our support.

Another message of appreciation:
“I am Naoto Segawa, a percussionist who performed at St. Andrew's the other day.   Thank you for coming to my concert! It was great to perform in Wellington and present what I learnt throughout the years I studied thanks to Rotary sponsorship. I hope to see you in November.”

On Saturday (20th), Area Governor David (Shackleton), Howard, Eden and I attended a Workshop on Growing Membership. PDG Andy Rajapakse, Membership specialist from Australia (though Sri Lanka born) and Barbara Mifsud, RI Regional Membership Officer, were midst their travels to all Districts in New Zealand to inspire re Growing Rotary.  Alternative options of ‘Satelite’ and ‘Passport’ groups were discussed, as were other methods of engagement with people about Rotary. More information will be shared on these at the Club Forum.

Meanwhile, keep dry and I hope you have not incurred any damage from slips.
Enjoy your week!

Rotary's Four-Way Test

The Four-Way Test is a nonpartisan and nonsectarian ethical guide for Rotarians to use for their personal and professional relationships. The test has been translated into more than 100 languages, and Rotarians recite it at club meetings:
Of the things we think, say or do

  1. Is it the TRUTH?
  2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
  3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
  4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
