Thanks Everyone
A great response from club members to the appeal for more Emergency Response Kits. On Monday, we devoted the money from the Sergeant’s session to the ERK campaign, and members gave generously particularly in the buying the box part of the session. A total of $284.40 was contributed, so that is nearly half way to a second ERK. Now we need another fundraising idea to bring in $315.60. A late donation of $50 has already reduced that to $265.60 and there’s still Julian’s IOU.
We’d already raised $600 for an ERK with nearly five hundred dollars of that raised in three sessions of collecting money from the public at New World Thorndon last week. And a generous member stepped in and added a hundred dollars to seal the deal.
Well done everyone and thank you all so much. Welcome ideas for another fundraiser.
It’s not the only example of members being generous lately. A member has covered the cost of the dinner for the two Interactors who are going to Feilding later this week and will have the opportunity to meet Rotary International President Ian Riseley.
Ian will present them with their badges of office; a great opportunity and a unique honour. (Thanks also to Howard for taking them up). District Governor Mitchell Brown has commended our initiative in sending the students to the function.
Others have reached into their pockets to enable the club to offer three Goalsetters scholarships again this year.
After that praise, a small grumble. There have been several instances lately of members being rostered for duties and simply not turning up. No “regrets can’t make it” coming through the last moment, which one genuinely gets from time to time. This is simply members not communicating anything and then not coming.
I think not enough members read the bulletin when it comes out. There’s a subtle irony here. I am complaining in the very vehicle that is unread about people who don’t read that very same vehicle!
Welcome your views about the way out of that maze!
