Rotary Club of Port Nicholson
Rotary Club of Port Nicholson Bulletin 5 July 2018
  President's Message

What a great start to the week to have so many members involved in the preparations for our year ahead. The ideas and action plans are shaping up well. Thank you to all who were involved.

You may (or may not) be wondering where your subscription invoice is for the 2018-19 year. The current subscription rate does not cover the costs of running the club and the Board is giving this further consideration to determine what the subscription rate needs to be. We will be able to update members on the Board’s recommendation following its next meeting on 14 August.

We have received invites from two Rotary clubs to join in their activities. It’s a great opportunity to network with other Rotarians, share ideas, inspire each other and enjoy the fellowship. See the events listed in this Bulletin, with more information about each event available from Bev.

There’s been some interest expressed already, so let Bev know if you’re interested in participating.

Speaker's Report

This weeks meeting was a bit different from our regular meetings. We split into three groups to discuss the goals for the Rotary year. Highlights from when the groups feedback were:
  •  The community service and social committees are under full swing with members assigned to each of the main projects.There's even a speaker set for the Goal Setters.
  • The engagement and membership committees spoke about the goal of getting club memebers using ClubRunner and promoting our club to our communities.
  • The youth committee spoke about taking an inventory of all the youth related programs - a good idea because there are lots of them.
Here's to a great year.

Do you like mysteries?
Do you like dinner parties?
Why not combine them both and join in Wellington Rotary’s ‘Guess who’s coming to dinner’ event on Saturday 22 September?

This will be the fourth year they have held this event, and this year they are inviting some other nearby clubs to participate. It’s a great way to get to know other Rotarians as well as a very enjoyable evening.
Here’s how it works:
  • You can register as either a host or guest, and we will arrange some dinner parties;
  • If you are a guest, we will need to know any dietary restrictions;
  • If you are a host, we will need to know how many guests you can entertain;
  • During the week before the event, we will confirm with the designated hosts the number of guests and any dietary constraints.
On Friday 21 September, we will send guests the address (but not the name) of their host.
Some other points:
If we have too many hosts, we will give priority to those who haven’t hosted before. Others we will treat as guests.
If you are a guest, usual dinner party rules apply, so please bring a bottle or something appropriate
While this is not strictly a fund raising event, we suggest a voluntary koha of $30 per guest to go to Rotary Foundation (tax receipts will be provided).
If you are interested, please register on the RCW website, e-mail or call me at eades.geoff@gmail.com or 021 216 8378

July Perambulators

Last Sunday, the Port Nich Perambulators strolled up  the Te Whiti Riser. This is a gentle path that meanders up the eastern hills of the Hutt Valley.

Thanks Peter for organising
