This week we had a rare treat of two world class musicians entertaining us. Ben
Baker, who is an honorary member of our club, is well known to some of our
members from when he was a young boy of ten years old. The fact that Ben
referred to Dawn as his second Mum speaks for itself. Justine Cormack, Ben’s
longstanding friend and playing companion, was delightful and both violinists
gave us an articulate summary of their recent Lakes Music Festival which has
been their most successful brainchild. It was an inspiring way to start the day.

Mark and Warwick's topic is "Free Masons in New Zealand."

It is always good to hear from Club members and their interests outside Rotary.

Come along and hear these two share about Free Masons, a topic that will be of real interest to us all.

Membership month

It was wonderful to see some new faces joining us to see what Rotary is about and the type of experience offered at our club. We hope to see them again and anyone that you can bring along over the next month as our Rotary year is rapidly coming to a close. So having issued the challenge I look forward to seeing what happens!

Support internship with UN
I would also like to inform members that along with the Rotary Club of Mt Victoria, (and I think others will follow) we have financially supported a young man, Jacob Pritchard, who has been offered the unique opportunity of an Internship with the United Nations in New York. One of our key themes for this year has been supporting and promoting youth leadership and our Board was happy to donate $1,000 on this occasion.

Club forum

Our Club Forum takes place on November 8th and I hope we have a strong attendance so we can hear members’ views. Topics that will be high on the agenda include boosting Rotary membership, our chosen charities in the future and Rotary’s Regionalisation project which has been developing in the background over recent months. If you have any topics which you are anxious to discuss please let me know. It is a wonderful opportunity to have your say.
It is special having Mark and Warwick, two of our own, speak to us next week. Look forward to seeing you then.

St Patricks College art show

Aranga - Emerge is to be held on Friday 3rd Nov 6.30pm-9.30pm in the O'Shea Performing Arts Centre at St Patricks College, Evans Bay Parade showcasing some fabulous local artists, as well as students work. Thwarted by Wellington weather..

The End Polio Now bacon butty fundraiser was unfortunately cancelled by the
frightful winds on the day left our organisers with no other option. The Board
has decided to recognise the importance of this event and continue our annual
contribution by donating $1,000. This is about what we would normally raise
and I want to thank David, Hayley and Linda for all their efforts over some time.

Interact club

14 of the 25 members of 2023 Port Nicholson Interact Club based at Wellington Girls College were presented with their Badges and a certificate of membership by President Tony on Tuesday. This year the Club raised funds from a film night to pay for
vanity kits that are included in our Clubs transition bags for the Wellington Homeless Woman's Trust,. They have also assisted in numerous Street Appeals, helped at the Free Store and various other volunteer activities. Darryl who overseas their activities is also in the photo.

Trails Wellington - Matt Farrar

Matt Farrar and a group of like-minded businesspeople, calling themselves Trails Wellington, who love mountain bike riding, (including members of the Drury family) approached the council about generating an asset for the city making use of the town belt - the idea is to create a commuter biking network off road.

The future looks good!
