Weekly update...

I am not sure how everyone else spent their very wet Saturday but  I took time to read through Rotary Downunder magazines, including some  back copies. I have to admit it is not a publication that I read  from cover to cover … a little too much of a focus on Australia. However I did find an interesting piece written by a contributor lamenting the apparent shift by Rotary International away from its roots as  group of autonomous Service Clubs to a more centralised corporate image conscious organisation.

In the same edition their was an article on youth suicide and how prevalent it was on both sides of the ditch. Both articles did get me thinking about the importance of what we can do tackle difficult issues and the central role that it plays in defining our purpose as Rotarians. Through Rotary programmes we support young leaders, which is very important, however should we also be looking to do something for those who are struggling with bullying, mental issues and despair, where there appears to be no future and the only way out is to end it all. If anybody is interested in this important issue please contact me.

Thanks

Mark

Port Nicholson Gardeners..changed date!! Nov 27 is it!

Hi Folks,

It's that time again....brush off the dried mud from your gumboots and grab your gardening gloves. We have  a job to do in Whitby - topping a hedge row of shrub/trees and clearing an overgrown area of small trees  and shrubs. We may have access to a mulcher which means that some wheelbarrow loading and unloading  may also be required.

After further discussion with the property owners, November 27th is the date. We can start around 9-9.30 am and hopefully be finished shortly after 12-12.30'sh.

Just a reminder that we already have the money in the bank for this as it was sold at our auction.

Let me know if you can make it ...drop an email to brent.gerrard@zephyr.co.nz.

Cheers,

Brent

A Forest at the Heart of Wellington...An Invitation
Kia ora koutou,

The Rotary Club of Wellington and Conservation Volunteers New Zealand are pleased to invite you to a collaborative strategy workshop as part of the Rotary Centenary Project – A Forest at the Heart of Wellington. This ambitious multi-organisational project aims to plant another 60,000 native trees on Mount Victoria by 2021/22, taking the total number of trees planted by Rotary to 100,000. What a fantastic legacy for future generations. To succeed this aspirational project needs your help to achieve our collective ambition. Great progress is being made. Now we need to take it to another level.
