On 17 November we had a very busy meeting, incorporating a range of guests from the three Wellington Charities our club have chosen to support with the proceeds of our annual charity auction, who each spoke briefly on the work they do, and how the money donated might be used to support their organisations to move forward, continuing to do fantastic work for women, children, and people with (currently) uncurable diseases.

This week we are lucky enough to hear from some of the recipients of scholarships and grant awards that our Club offer to young people in the Wellington region.

The 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference has just concluded in Egypt, building on the outcomes of COP26 to deliver action on an array of issues critical to tackling the climate emergency – from urgently reducing greenhouse gas emissions, building resilience, and adapting to the inevitable impacts of climate change. Christmas Gifts for The House of Grace
Please bring gifts for the young women at The House of Grace to our Christmas party. Gift vouchers, non perishable food items, and stocking fillers like lip balm, nail polish, scrunchies, hair clips, sun block, cute stationery items will be most appreciated.

Fundraising efforts
Peter has announced a $900 donation raised selling cases of his Lochton House wine. This will be added to the proceeds of our Bacon Buttie stand and go to End Polio Now. Thanks for an incredible contribution Peter and everyone who bought some wine!
We have some special aprons for sale, right in time for BBQ season! They are length adjustable, have a large pocket and are branded simply with the Rotary Logo. Get in quick for summer!! They cost $30, and all funds raised will go to End Polio Now.
Ride for Rotary is a Rotary Foundation fundraiser event, to celebrate Rotary Fellowship and to connect the world via Motorcycle riding & 4 wheeler driving across South India. What a special Meeting last week – with the largest attendance of the year – 50! Thank you to all who brought guests.
Linda Wellington’s vivid address and slides of their trip to the Galapagos Islands made it feel as though we were right there, also fascinated by the extraordinary colours of some of the birds and creatures. The adaptations to the harsh environment in which they exist are remarkable. Read more by Reporter Dave.
To be able to give certificates advising the Wellington Children's Hospital and the Malaghan Institute of the donations to them of $25,500 each and to the Wellington Women’s Homeless Trust of $12,000 as we distributed the proceeds of the Auction made it even more of significant seeing and hearing their reactions. Dr John Tait, Rebecca McKenzie and Hiria Tareha all made poignant references to the difference these funds will make to their respective organisations and those who will benefit from there. Invitations to visit them will be followed
up with suggested times in the new year.
In the meantime, do find a gift to match something on the list for the House of Grace. Thank you to Rick for organising this and offering to take them out there. It is easy to make a difference remarkably simply.
We are still seeking RYLA candidates – do consider young people you and your family know who may be suitable for the life-enriching course. This week’s Meeting will focus on Youth.
A reminder to start thinking about getting your Christmas tree up – the trucks of them will no doubt be emerging soon!
Linda Wellington took us on a tour of the Galapagos Islands at our last meeting on 17 November. This was a boat trip which involved sailing around the significant islands in the group.
She intrigued and educated our club, holding our attention captive with her presentation.
