The Perambulators Gourmet Overnighter in the Orongorongo's unfortunately had to be canceled, but the Ginger Crunch still needed to be eaten, so on Wednesday 26th intrepid perambulators Mark, Peter & Barbara tackled the 22km track along the eastern hills from Stokes Valley to Wainui Hill instead. The crunch, and Mark's egg & bacon pie, went down very well at the lunch stop.

BenchSpace Community Workshop provides space and equipment for people at all levels to practice woodworking craft, learn from those with more experience, or share their expertise with others. They welcome people of all genders, races, ages, sexualities. Woodwork is for everyone and there is enormous value in broader social connection.
They offer woodworking courses at all levels - from complete beginners making simple projects right through to advanced courses in fine furniture making.
Oliver Dickie, who has a background in the legal profession, is the Chair of the BenchSpace Charitable Trust. Oliver was motivated to join the BenchSpace project after observing the delight and growing confidence in beginners making simple projects from wood, and the associated mental health benefits of working with your hands.

Well done Heather and Tony on securing yet another fascinating speaker. At 25, Aleisha Amohia has achieved much already. Determined and successful, we will see her effect change which will ripple and permeate with regard appropriate inclusion and acceptance, whether of gender, colour, race, age…as well as in technological advancements. With having graduated from Victoria University of Wellington with two degrees - Bachelor of Science (majoring in Computer Science and specialising in Artificial Intelligence) and a Bachelor of Commerce (majoring in Management and minoring in Information Systems), Aleisha has gone on to become a software developer for global open source project Koha, at Catalyst IT. It is not surprising that she is already keenly sought after on the speaker circuit. Read more below in Brenda's report.
Lindsay’s stamp presentation boards were impressive – and it was no wonder why they were award winning! Appropriate to have them there in association with Anzac Day (which was the day before).
As we did not have enough time last week, we will ensure that Eden have a chance to speak and seek names from all at the coming meeting so that potential new members can be approached.
Tony Robinson ‘put up his hand' to attend the Innovative Young Minds (IYM) programme Quiz Evening. He is keen to form a team of 8, so please contact Tony if you can join him what will be a fun evening, for a very pertinent cause. A reminder that it is on 18 May at Boulcott’s Farm Golf Club at 6.30pm, and run by Hutt City Rotary. Only $30 per person towards the IYM, and buy drinks and food as you choose from the open bar.
David and I are meeting with two of the Rotoracters, with a view to them being embraced more into Port Nicholson Rotary. This will have the benefits of more involvement of this demographic in our projects and activities.
In respect of that, a reminder about Tree Planting on 4 June in Tawa – contact Lisa.
As previously mentioned, Changeover will be on 21 June at the Wellington Club from 6pm – 8pm. There will be drinks and nibbles. As Peter is our liaison with the Wellington Club, and he has just met with them, we will have more information to advise at this week’s meeting, when we will also hear Oliver Dickie speak – see Lou’s invite notification for more information on him and in this Bulletin!
Aleisha Amohia is a young woman who really is changing the world one step at a time. She is of Maori, Indian and Cambodian descent and she shared a little of her journey in the technology industry with our club on April 26.
Sue Barker is the director of Sue Barker Charities Law, a boutique law firm based in Wellington, specialising in charities law and public tax law. She spoke to our Club on 12 April about the review of the Charities Act 2005, and what this could mean for NZ Charities moving forward.
