Dr Pushpa Wood

Director at Financial Education and Research Centre (Fin-Ed Centre), Massey University

Dr Pushpa Wood has a long history of financial literacy advocacy. She was previously the Education Manager at the Commission for Financial Capability and has worked in financial literacy across the school, tertiary, and industry sectors.
Her research interests include identifying what motivates people to change their financial behaviour, preparedness of women in planning for their future, and testing culturally appropriate evaluation tools.

Her topic is " Financial literacy and ethnic communities."

A Grand Night Out

Anne and her Projects Committee thank everyone for their support in making the Club’s major fundraising event “A Grand Night Out” such a success. From all accounts everyone enjoyed the mystery of not knowing where they might be going until the last moment, and comments so far indicate a great evening, and people well dined and wined.

The final figure is not in yet but it looks like the amount raised is a little over $30,000. Most of which will go to Lifting the Lid, well done everyone.

A Grand Night Out

Hip, hip, hooray. Hip, hip, hooray. Hip, hip, hooray. Three big cheers to the Projects Committee for a fabulous Grand Night Out. This was a fine example of what our club can do, and do so very well. Thank you to all of you who contributed in some way or another.

Club Survey

A reminder to please complete the club survey. This is very important for your Board, so they can use the information from the survey results, to inform more detailed discussion on 20 November at our club forum.

Tree of Remembrance

Please see Paula if you are wanting to volunteer for the Tree of Remembrance, as she has Jean’s roster ready to be filled in.

Xmas event

Next week sees the end of October, and the countdown to Christmas. Make sure that you have registered for our club event being held on 8 December at the Top of the Cable Car.

Buy the Box

Buy the box has been a great little contributor to our Rotary projects. However very few of us carry cash these days. We are offering another approach- to make a annual 'Buy the box' payment i.e. $100, so you can share your milestones and achievements on Wednesdays without having to bring cash to the meetings. The payment can be made at any time during the year.

President Jo and the members of Port Nicholson Interactors who last Tuesday received their certificates and badges in recognition of having met the attendance requirements, volunteering commitments, community service and engagement in the Clubs programme during 2024.

Golf fund raiser for the Malaghan

Come and join us on Friday 22 November at the Royal Wellington Golf Club for a Charity Golf day. Teams of 4 playing ambrose with lots of food and drink around the course. Lunch before tee off at 12.30. Dinner and prizes after the event. To register contact Jane Paterson janejpaterson@gmail.com. It would be great to continue members support of the Malaghan Institute.

RYLA Youth Leadership Awards
Applications close soon for RYLA 2025. This residential 4 day course is to be held in late January, is fully funded and open top young
leaders/potential leaders aged 18-24.

VSA and the work Ryan is doing

Dr Philippa Smales gave a vibrant presentation on the VSA work NZ does mainly in the Pacific. VSA has an alumnus of over 4000 volunteers and during any one calendar year up to 150 volunteers are deployed.

We are well represented by Ryan Donovan, a member of our Club. We saw footage of the work he is doing as a conservation assistant in Tonga – working on restoring the health of wetlands and streams. Great work Ryan. See below for the full report. Many thanks Brenda.
