This week's speaker

Susie Robertson CE Kaibosh
Food Rescue needing rescue?

Susie has a passion for people and planet, so for her Kaibosh ticks both boxes with its mission of Zero Food Poverty and Zero Food Waste. Susie’s last role was as the Community Manager at Sustainability Trust, and prior to that working in the youth health and development sector in charities and government. She loves living in the Wellington suburb of Brooklyn with her whānau and their SPCA-rescue dog, Pepper. Susie is happiest taking time out in nature and can often be spotted picking up rubbish off the beach while her dog barks at the ocean.

We are back at the Wellington Club this week for our first formal meeting of the year.

Happy New Year to you all.
What a fantastic turnout we had for our last meeting for 2024. Thank to the generous member who sponsored the bubbles and strawberries, a nice Christmas treat.
Our speaker was wonderful, interesting and funny. A great way to finish off the year. Thank you Heather for finding all these wonderful people to talk to us.

On Friday 20 December, Darryl, Yon Yi and I delivered all of the gifts to the Wellington Homeless Women’s Trust. They were so well received, and will be distributed on Christmas Day. It is lovely to be able to share with those who have less than we do. Truly the Christmas and Rotary spirit. Thank you. Our generosity has featured on the Trust’s facebook page.

For the next months we have much to look forward to. The combined Business Breakfast on 26 February where the Honourable Nicola Willis is the guest speaker. February is Rotary Peace Month and Greg Mitchell is speaking to us on 5 February. Greg was a Peace Scholar sponsored by our club.  5 March is Goal Setters, which this year is being held at Te Papa. The team will keep us updated about this fantastic event. March is also Youth Month for us and I look forward to hearing from the young people we have supported in the past year.  These are all wonderful opportunities to bring along a friend, colleague or relative so they can see how fantastic we are as a club, and maybe join.

Last Wednesday about 20 of us met at L’Affaré for an informal breakfast. Everyone was in fine spirits, and I am keen to maintain the vibrancy during the rest of my tenure, and beyond of course.

On Friday 31 st, the perambulators take on the Nydia Bay Walk again. This year without torrential rain and howling winds as requested by Peter and Barbara, as well as everyone else who is going. I am so very disappointed that I will not be joining them due to an injury sustained in the Orongorongas on 9 January.
See you all on 5 February.

Clint Schoultz Chair - Take 10
Clint’s day job is Venues Catering Manager at Sky Stadium and it was when he was dining out in the city he recognised that young people become very vulnerable if they find
themselves in the city at night without support. So, in 2016 he and a group of friends began conversations around creating a safe space where people could charge their phone, be
given water (so they could make good decisions) and be supported to get home safely.
