Our speaker this week is

Michael Nestmann

Te Whatu Ora (manager of the community and mental health team),

President of Tawa Rotary Club, and host of the "Go with Grace" podcast.

Michael's topic is, "Assisted dying in New Zealand."

Key points on topic and from the End of Life Choice Act:

  • Legal obligations for health professionals
  • How the Code of Rights aligns with the Act
  • Overview of the assisted dying process
  • Service data and insights
                                     President David

Hello Rotary Friends

I hope you all enjoyed the Grand Night Out. Wow, what an event. Many thanks to Paula and the Projects Committee for your months of work. I have had many comments about how smoothly it went and the good time people had. (See a small selection of the event below).

As President, I would like to thank all members who attended. Buying a ticket and being there makes it successful. Thanks for your support.

I would also like to thank the people in the club who either donated items or services or who were responsible for acquiring these through their contacts.

For donating auction items, thanks to: Edward Leung; Brent Gerard; Mike Selvadurai; Nicole Barker; Julian Bateman; Tamaris Livera; Rick Hughes; and Paula McKnight.

For donating raffle items: Tony Robinson; Rick Hughes; David Shackleton;  Bill Day; Tamaris Livera; and Paula McKnight.

And other thanks: Tony Herring (MC par excellent); Peter Whittington (a steady flow of Brookfields wine); Julian Bateson (published and printed 100 copies of the catalogue); Simon Warburton (Simon's partner Elle created the catalogue and prepared the AV presentation); and Geoff Smith who roped in our very fine auctioneer, the very professional Mr Des Coppins.

Thank you all for your generosity. We are still working out how much we raised but we know the fundraising side went well and I will leave it to Paula to share the good news next week.

Yours in Rotary,

David

P.S Don’t miss next meeting on 28 October when we have Michael Nestmann, President of the Tawa Rotary Club and Te Whatu Ora manager talking about Assisting Dying in New Zealand. It will be a fascinating discussion.
