This week our speakers are
 Lou Aitken and Amanda Miller
Co-founders of Women of Poneke
Their topic is, "Why connection matters for the Women of Poneke."
Women of Poneke is a group of Wellington women with a vision to inspire, connect and uplift the voices of Wellington women - and help to contribute to the future of our place. They want women to:
  •  be inspired by practical and helpful insights about the things women all experience yet are reluctant to talk about.
  • Connect to people, through their wonderful community. No job titles, no expectations - just women and people who identify as women.

President Jo

Herewith, my final President's report.
It has been an honour and a privilege to be your President for the year.  It has been a year of significant personal growth for me.
At our fantastic changeover on Wednesday - thank you to everyone who was able to come - I outlined what we had been responsible for and involved in, stated how much we had raised and distributed, and expressed thanks.
We were responsible for and involved in 26 individual events and/or activities
We raised $85,331.39 and donated $70,655. $31,629 to Lifting the Lid, $20,000 to Goal Setter awardees, $526.29 to the WHWT, $10,500 to the Rotary Foundation, $6,290 to youth projects, $250 to the Wellington Heritage Festival, and $1,460 to Predator Free Wellington.
I expressed thanks to each board member, to Peter and Lou, the Wellington Club, and to all of you.
I had the huge privilege to present two new PHF's to Heather, Sherryn, and Lou, and subsequent sapphire pins to Rob, Peter.  C
ongratulations to all of you.
Then it was time to handover the reins to Nicole. Nicole, I wish you well, and hope you gain as much as you give to your time.
Here are some photos.

Let’s plant trees to help our planet!
Sunday 13 July - 1pm to 3.30pm
Please join us for our annual tree planting on Sunday 4 June at 1.00pm with The Friends of Tawa's Bush Reserves for the seventh year.  Our goal is to build on what we have done in the last six years – over 4800 trees in total!
Tree planting is for everyone.  You don’t have to be super fit to join us.  There are several jobs to choose from or you could do some of each such as:  digging holes; planting trees, setting out trees for planting, picking up the tree packets for reusing, and / or contributing to the afternoon tea.  There are lots of ways to contribute and everybody is welcome to come along.

I am coordinating the Club’s participation and can be reached on 021 265 6220 or email landm.king@xtra.co.nz Please register by Friday 4 July

From our President Elect

It was wonderful to see the significant commitments Heather, Lou, Rob, Peter and Sherryn have made and continue to make to Port Nicholson Rotary recognised at the Paul Harrison awards last Wednesday. The huge smiles and cheers from their families said it all.

Over the next few weeks we will be ringing every member of the club to ask 4-5 questions to get your view on the club, understand what works for you and what we can improve. I am looking forward to touching base with you all.

Have a great week
Nicole

Opening thought
Change is like a river, it can be calm and serene or wild and unpredictable, but it always leads to new experiences.

Closing thought
I want every little girl who is told she is bossy, to be told instead that she has leadership skills.
Sheryl Sandberg
In case you missed it
Give blood – be happy
This week we heard Lena Long from the New Zealand Blood Service. This was her first presentation but she performed like an expert. We heard that under four per cent of the population donates blood. One donation can save up to three lives.
A decision was made a few years ago to ban donors who had spent more than six months in Britain due to BSE or mad cow disease. This ban reduced the number of donors but now the ban has been lifted it has allowed for more donors to give blood. However, they still need another 17,000 donors if the Blood Service is to keep up with demand. They do import some blood from the United States to fill the gap, but they would prefer not to have to do this, partly because it costs a lot.
Around 25 per cent of the donations, especially the plasma, go to cancer patients to help them heal more quickly. The remainder is for operations and those involved in accidents as well as some specialised blood products.
If you want to give blood, it is easy. ( Like many club members I have donated lots over the years without any noticeable harm.)  There is even a team of people who will collect you from work, take you to the donation point, and bring you back, all for no charge.
