Sebastian Grodd & Judith Gray from Lifeflight gave an excellent presentation on the latest technology as well as the personal stories of LifeFlight. Many thanks also to Tony for sharing your moving story about how the emergency services saved a little member of your whanāu.

Supporting a new Rotary club get started
Heather donated Rotary 1000 odd Hi Viz vests that her firm had produced but were no longer selling. While Port Nicholson could not find a use for the vests, a Rotary colleague Assistant Governor Graeme Prince said he would like them. Here is his letter. - "My club is Whanganui North and we have started up a new Satellite club called 'Starburst.' It has one focus -to help eliminate 'violence at home.' I decided to give the vests to Starburst for them to use as a fundraiser to give their bank account a bit of a kick start.
Would you believe that within 10 days of my giving them the vests, they have sold the lot and have put just under $5,000.00 in their bank account. I am so pleased that the vests have been put to good use with the benefit going to a Rotary cause and I thought you would be happy to know this as well."

Video games to take on the world- From Wellington
Mario Wynands was born in Wellington, is the co-founder and managing director of Sidhe Interactive and managing director of PikPok. Mario has developed popular games and series such as Shatter and the Rugby league series and Rugby Union series. This will be really interesting for those of us who need a bit of help to get up to speed with our children and grand children!!!
It was great to walk through the city yesterday alongside many colourful and excited Dutch and American football fans on the way to the stadium for their important World Cup clash which resulted in a tough drawn game enjoyed by a large crowd.
What a great mid-winter boost to Wellington and our economy, and there last night on national TV was Simon Arcus whom we enjoyed as our speaker a fortnight ago, emphasising what a great shot in the arm this is to our business sector. Of course having all these international visitors and different cultures to our shores is wonderful as is the sheer celebration of sport and coming together. So plenty of positive vibes and best wishes to our team for the Switzerland game in the hope they make it the knockout phase of this prestigious international competition which is presently creating so much worldwide interest at the moment.
Our Casino night and Charity Auction/Dinner are looming closer on the horizon and our Projects’ Committee is working tirelessly under Paula’s astute direction so we can make a real difference for our three chosen charities this year. Have you got your tickets yet? On Wednesday I look forward to issuing a challenge to all our members around a way that everyone single person can contribute.
I look out my window and it is still raining, however my day is about to improve greatly as I get in my car and drive to Petone for ‘Flashback Friday’ to enjoy the camaraderie of special people who just happen to be our Rotarians!

The Rotary Club of Auckland has brought this exhibition to New Zealand as a funder raiser.
The annual World Press Photo Contest has recognised professional press and documentary photographers since it began in 1955. It is always a stunning exhibition that gives you a snapshot of what has been happening around the world in the last 12 months. It is being held at Smith and Caughey's in Queens St, Central Auckland.
At this week's 'buy the box' David asked us to share the best fish and chips we had eaten in Wellington. Tamaris's recommendation sounded like the winner.

'Flying can be the difference between life and death'
It was 1968 when plumber, Peter Button, witnessed the sinking of the Wahine ferry and realised a helicopter could have saved lives. He thought: “there has to be a better way”. These words inspired him to create Life Flight. In 1975 Peter obtained his helicopter license and purchased a Hughes 300 helicopter, thanks to the generosity of Mark Dunajtschik.
