Rotary conference March 20-22 Napier-

 are you coming?

We have a wonderful opportunity to attend the Rotary conference next year in Napier on the weekend of March 20-22. This is a great time of year to go to the bay and the programme looks interesting and fun. Please let Peter Whittington at syrahnz@gmail.com know if you are attending so we can coordinate travel and accommodation where possible.

President Nicole

Board Meeting

We had some excellent discussions at the Board meeting this month.

Membership - We will follow up the members suggestions from the club forum before the end of the year with the aim to meet them in person in 2026. We have taken on board the advice to look after our current members as well as focusing on new members.

Welfare calls -We have agreed that members who are not at a meeting 3 weeks in a row will get a call to see they are ok and whether there is anything we can do to support them. The exceptions are those members who have taken a leave of absence. Many thanks Howard and Andre for taking on this important role.

Lifting the Lid- The LTL team presented an excellent paper about setting up a LTL Trust in the near future.

It was lovely to welcome Rebecca Gray from Allen and Clarke to our meeting last week. Rebecca and the team have developed an evaluation questionnaire for the schools to complete for each student who receives LTL funding. They provided this pro bono which we are very appreciative of.

Have a great week, Nicole

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT….
Q and the Circus Hub

Today the circus came to Rotary.
Angharad from the Wellington Circus Trust, and Q from the Circus Hub told us about their respective roles and organisations, but first, we did some muscle flossing exercises. These stimulate proprioception (how your body knows where it is in space and what position it is in). Body awareness is a fundamental of circus performance especially tight rope walkers, which is Q’s speciality. She went into a circus programme at five years old, studied for her degree and masters in other subjects, but returned to her love of circus.

Police national dive squad

This week Bruce Adams head of the police national dive squad gave us an insight of his 28 years with this team of divers. The team was formed in the 1970s and have an average of 70 deployments every year throughout New Zealand, well over one each week.
