India Korner is the cofounder of Method Recycling, a design-led business she started with her husband and young family.
India's background in graphic design and commercial leasing was pivotal in redesigning office recycling for the modern business. You will probably recognise their bins with the different colour lids to indicate what is to be recycled in each.
Today Method continues to move from strength to strength, growing internationally.

The death toll in Syria and Turkey has now surpassed 25,000 people and may well double. It is mid-winter and many survivors do not have enough food, water, heating or basic amenities to keep themselves alive.
Shelterbox have arrived in Istanbul and are coordinating with DGs of the three affected districts and other aid organsiations.

Quiz Night - Rotary Club of Karori
A fun quiz run by the Rotary Club of Karori is on Sunday 5 March at One Fat Bird in Karori.
This year it is in support of ‘Lifting the Lid’ on Youth Suicide, to help fund counsellors giving assistance to those at risk in secondary schools in Wellington.

Goal Setter Awards 2023 Presentation Breakfast

37 students applied for 2023 Goal Setter awards and the panel has selected 10 to be interviewed early March. From this, 4 outstanding students who have shown they can set and achieve goals, have faced significant challenges in their lives and have given service to their community will be awarded $4,000 each. At the time of applying they will be in at least their second year of study in a Wellington Tertiary institution.
The presentation breakfast will be held on Wednesday 19th April at the Pipitea Marae and Function Centre on Thordon Quay. Peter Boshier will be the guest speaker and each of the recipients will speak briefly on their story.
Tickets are available from Richard for $70 each (or $700 for a table of 10).

From the President..
Unbelievably this weekend has dumped down on already ‘wasted’ parts of the North Island. Our hearts go out to them…and the income of Buy the Box for the next 4 weeks, with matched funding out of Club funds. Contrary to what I said last week, via other Reports at the time, Steve spoke of the importance of donations in kind – the kind the people need, in the regions where they still have only the clothes in which they were evacuated. However, as he spoke of the efforts through a Marae in Porirua, where the appropriate clothing, non-perishable food items and toiletries were sorted and parceled up and taken to Marae on the east coast in official 4-wheel drive vehicles for distribution, we will not put this appeal ‘out there’ until we have details for the next planned trip.
Meanwhile, last night it was particularly moving to be at the performance and interview of Flaxmere born, Phillip Rhodes, with, in his words, a “Once were Warriors” early background, to internationally renowned opera singer. Ian Fraser deftly quizzed Phillip and the person so influential in shaping him and his career, Dame Kiri Te Kanawa. Two of her other singers also sang to the full house at St Andrews on the Terrace, organised by the Wellington Rotary Club with funds going to them and Wellington and NZ Opera Companies. Phillip also won the prestigious Sheilah Winn Award for Most Thought-Provoking Actor when he was 17 in SGCNZ’s National Festival. He performs in Lucia di Lammermoor at the St James next month.
Naoto Segawa demonstrated his exceptional dexterity with his mini-performance on the marimba last week, and background of his training in Singapore, thanks to a grant through Port Nicholson Rotary. There are only between 5 and 10 of his full-size version of this instrument in NZ. He plays regularly with Orchestra Wellington, and solo – next month in the Lady Chapel in the Wellington Cathedral.
With a busy Meeting schedule last week, I was unable to fit in the feedback from our last Board Meeting. It will be given this week, along with comments on what were collated at the Club Forum.

Naoto Segawa must be a very fit man as he arrived carrying at least very 6 large bags containing a 3.5 metre long marimba – which took about 15 minutes to set up! With 5 Octaves, it is very much a percussion based piano with a beautiful sound. Watching him play is mesmerising...
David and Richard started off by giving a quick recap on Lifting the Lid. Next we had Hamish and Ella speak about their experiences with Rotaract and Interact respectively. Lastly Port Nicholson returning member Jo stepped in and gave a fantastic abridged new member talk.
