Rotary Club of Port Nicholson Bulletin

Wednesday 07 July 2021

………………………….........………………..
President
Dr Marc Rands

Hi, the theme for the club this year is ‘Fellowship’, and we will be profiling a club member each week, to help us get to know each other better.

To get the ball rolling, I’ve put mine in below.

Club profile: Marc Rands
Hi, I've been a club member for 9 years, serving on the community service committee. I work at the Royal Society Te Apārangi, running awards programmes and scientific expert advice, but have also got skills in gardening (weeding!) and rat trapping! My family (Ann, Douglas & Alexander) and I have lived in Ngaio for the last 10 years.

It is also:
Rotary in New Zealand’s Centenary Year,
so I will be highlighting a news item from New Zealand 100 years ago each week:

Waikato times, 11 July 1921: Caught in a Cyclone: Opihi’s experiences. Swept from Stem to Stern. The Opihi encountered the full force of the recent cyclonic storm when bound from New Zealand to Melbourne with timber. The vessel was taken to sea to evade the storm, but mountainous seas swept from stem to stern for two days, when the wind shifted, the sea striking the vessel from three directions. Eventually she reached Port Kembla, but not till the engine room and stokehold were flooded.

Magazine Designer role for SGCNZ

With Shakespeare Globe Centre NZ (SGCNZ)’s Editor/Designer of our quarterly magazine Accent on Shakespeare reluctantly having to retire owing to new work pressures, we are urgently looking for a replacement for this role. It is more relating to design of the magazine than editing.
Lynn, the incumbent, is kindly providing the templates and has offered to assist with advice if required.
There is an extremely modest remuneration.
If, or you know anyone who might be interested, please contact Dawn Sanders as soon as possible on 027 283 6016 E: dawn@sgcnz.org.nz

To fellow Rotarians.......
A NZ company,  Lanaco Ltd has donated N95 level masks to Rotary District 9940 which we are now shipping to Fiji.  The Suva East Rotary Club is managing the distribution of these to people in villages that would not normally have access to this sort of quality product.

RNZWSC has underwritten the NZ$5000 cost of transporting these to Fiji and is now asking for support to cover this cost.

The poster from RNZWSC below seeks support for this shipping cost.

Thank you for your support
