Crikey! How on earth are we already officially in "the silly season"?!?
This week, instead of having our usual weekly meeting, The Wellington club will be hosting us at the other end of the day for a Very Merry Christmas function. Hopefully, if you want to attend, you have already registered and paid. If you are attending and have not yet paid, please ensure you do so ASAP.
Please, remember to bring gifts for the young Mums at the House of Grace (think vouchers, make up, anything to lift the spirits of a young woman who suddenly has to put someone else first!).
We have been given two more earning opportunities at the Waitangi Park Market on Sundays 8 and 15 January.
Please look at your diaries and see if you can help.
We need about seven people in three shifts each Sunday, bringing in about $400 for club funds each time.
Good fun in the sun at that time to year.

Join our Rat Trapping Team!
Are you interested to join a group of dedicated volunteers who check the predator free Rat traps around the Wellington Waterfront? It is a relatively easy job, and only takes a couple of hours, once every couple of months or so. If you are interested, even on a casual basis, please contact Rick
Zone 8 Regionalisation Project Update
Three (identical) webinars are planned, hosted by RI Director Jessie Harman to update us on what has happened since the vote, and what the next steps are. Presenters will be Co-Chairs PDG Ingrid Waugh and PDG Peter Frueh. Questions can be asked.

Round the Bays will be held on 19 Feb 2023 and relies on volunteers, offering $25 per volunteer. There are many volunteer roles available but for us the offer is marshal roles. This means we would be ensuring the safety of participants on course by keeping unauthorised vehicles off the closed roads, removing on course hazards, and assessing the wellbeing of participants. Additionally, you will have radios for communicating with your zone manager. The rough time for the day is 6:00am to 11:00am and you will be wearing a Hi-Vis vest.

From the president...
It was impressive to hear Jonathon Hendry at last week’s meeting describe the history of the iconic BATS Theatre, through its various machinations to its current ever-evolving programmes, particularly
focusing on developing potential of young theatre practitioners of all genre. Neatly tucked in by the Central Fire Station in Courtenay Place, BATS has been seen only from the outside by many. An opportunity to remedy this will be presented in the new year with the chance to attend a selected play there. Michaela has offered to follow this through with Jonty and create a fundraiser as well.
Note Anne’s offer in the Bulletin of a fundraising opportunity through some of us marshalling at Round the Bays in February and John’s request for more Parking supervisors for that in January. Great to have these chances to raise funds while serving community needs as well.
The recent re-emergence of David Shackleton post his surgery, along with Jane Paterson and Richard Brodie hosted a very well attended session on ‘Lifting the Lid’ last week. Representatives from participating schools provided valuable insights into the hugely valued benefits and also ideas for potential other ways in which Rotary’s funding could be directed to make a significant difference in this area of the mental health of young people. These will be discussed further and again, more initiatives will be advised next year. All were mindful of how the Christmas period can be enjoyable for many, it can also be one of considerable stress. For those at risk, the continuing care options were also discussed.
A reminder to bring items for the mothers at the House of Grace, to brighten their lives at Christmas and beyond. Thanks again to Rick for coordinating this. However, a reminder to bring them to our Christmas Dinner, not in the morning, as there is no morning meeting this week! The final meeting for the year will be next week.
