President
David Shackleton

At our meeting on Wednesday, the AGM went very well. Bev outlined our many achievements throughout the 2018/19 year and Nic Duncan our Treasurer reported on our accounts.

The Club ended the year with a surplus of $1000 in the Club Account and distributed a very generous $117,777 from the Charitable Trust account to various charities.

Congratulations and thanks go to Bev for achieving these results and leading the Club. Also, thanks go to Nic, Peter and Noel for ensuring all our accounts are in order. There is an enormous amount of work that goes into preparing these accounts and we are most grateful for their efforts.

Furthermore, congratulations go to Mike Selvadurai who was voted in as our President Elect for 2020/21. I know Mike will do a fabulous job and be a great representative for our Club.

We also had the opportunity to hear Dawn tell us her life story and outline her incredible achievements. Dawn had the audience spellbound; I am sure no one fully realised the extent of what she has accomplished.  Truly a “Woman of Influence”.

At our Board meeting this week it was decided that in order to raise monies for the “End Polio Campaign” all funds collected through the Buy the Box and Happy Dollars session in October will go to support this worthy cause. Of course, you can also assist by buying the tee shirt or just donating.

Have a great week

Thank you.

David

Dawn Sanders gave us a wonderful address about her life - she certainly deserves to be nominated for the Stuff Women of Influence award. Unfortunately there is no full report.

Rotary Predator-Free Waterfront

While it might appear that this initiative has made a slow start, there has been work going on behind the scenes to establish the terms of engagement with Wellington City Council (WCC). This model of partnership is new to them so it has been important to establish systems that are transferable to other partners and activities. What is clear, is that there is a very strong wish to partner with our Club on this initiative and this intention has now been formalised in an MOU between RCPN and WCC.

Outlined below are next steps:
  • Under the terms of the MOU (and under the H&S legislation) any Rotary Predator Free Waterfront volunteer is required to undergo training prior to initiating trapping activity. This training will be provided by Henk Louw, Biosecurity Specialist, Pest Animals at WCC. The training is scheduled for Wednesday October 2, 8.30-10a.m. and an invitation will be sent out via Clubrunner. Anyone interested in participating in this project is welcome to attend.
  • Dave Lazelle has a commitment from Placemakers to supply the timber for the trapping tunnels. He will organise a Working Bee to make them and WCC will provide the traps and shrouds. More information shortly.
  • WCC has designed a trapping plan which will be reviewed throughout the year. Trapping is expected to begin late October.
Thank you everyone who has shown an interest in the Project. We look forward to getting our traps made and deployed once we have completed our induction on October 2.
