President
Dr Marc Rands

COVID Lockdown continues....

Kia ora,

With Wellington moving down to Level 3 we will still be running on-line club meetings at 5pm on Wednesday, until we reach Level 2. I hope to see you on Zoom!

I hope to see you there!

Club profile: Jane Paterson

I joined the Club in 2007 and right from the start I’ve been involved with the Goal Setter programme. I volunteer my services to other committees as needed. I’m a retired educator both at secondary and tertiary level and my good organizational skills developed during my working life are useful in Rotary too. Three of my four children live overseas and in the usual world travel to visit them is always on my agenda. My life is filled with my gorgeous granddaughter, golf, singing in a choir and I’m also the Chair of the Friends of the Malaghan Institute.

Unfortunately, as a result of Covid-19 Lockdown Level restrictions, we are unable to run our lunch on the
4th September.  We are sorry, and no doubt you will be disappointed.

We will reschedule this event, if appropriate, at some stage in the future and this will naturally also depend on other Club commitments.

Thank you for your support.

Kind regards,
JOY

We have all needed an ambulance sometime to help us or our families. You can help by donating at www.onesieday.co.nz , click here or txt ONESIES to 3181 to donate $3.

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated and help make a difference.

Wellington City Mission
An update
The WCM is not accepting donated food under Level 4 as it is not safe for them to do so.

They would welcome donations. Our members can make these by going into their website and clicking on donations.

Stay safe and until next time!

The visit is postponed and will be rescheduled when we return to Level 2.

Rotary District 9940 update

As your Board representative for liaison with Rotary District 9940, Marc has asked me to update you on District activities. I thought before I do this, and for the sake of our newer members, I would explain exactly what District 9940 is and how we fit into the Rotary organisation.

In New Zealand we are part of what is known as Rotary Zone 8. Zone 8 encompasses all the Clubs in Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific Islands (Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Tonga, Vanuatu, Cook Islands etc). Within Zone 8 there are 27 districts of which 9940 is responsible for the Lower North Island of New Zealand from Inglewood and New Plymouth to Wellington including the Kapiti Coast, Ohakune, and the Wairarapa etc.  In total we have about 50 Clubs and some 1500 Rotarians in our District.

District 9940 is headed by a District Governor, DG (Mark Wheeler) under which is the District Executive made up of the immediate past DG, DG elect and DG nominee, the district Treasurer, Secretary and Vice Governor.

From here it gets a little complicated as we get into the District Officers, Directors, and committees heads of which there are 40. Under which we have 34 committees from Innovative Young Minds to Youth Protection, ROMAC, Public Image, Learning and Development etc.

Our Club is well represented throughout the organisation with Brent, Bill, Joy, Peter, Linda, Anne, John, Paula, Howard, and me, serving or heading one committee or other. If I have inadvertently missed someone out, I apologise.

I hope this explains in rudimentary terms what District 9940 is and our place in Rotary. If it feels a little top heavy, I will agree. However, a reorganisation is being planned and I will expand on this in future articles.

Rotary District 9940 Liaison
