Te Rina Leonard
Tumu Whakarae Chief Executive Te Aho o Te Kura Pounamu (Correspondence School)
Her topic is "Te Aho o Te Kura Pounamu, the work we do, the impact we make and the many challenges we face."
Te Aho o Te Kura Pounamu (Te Kura) is New Zealand’s state distance education provider, offering a wide range of programmes from early childhood through to NCEA Level 3. With well over 28,000 enrolments a year, it is strongly connected to many diverse communities throughout New Zealand.
Te Rina Leonard (Ngāi Te Rangi, Ngāti Ranginui, Ngāti Rangiwewehi, Ngāti Whakaue, Ngāti Raukawa) was appointed as the Chief Executive in 2023. Te Rina first came to Te Kura in 2008 for two years as Deputy Chief Executive Design and Quality, and returned eight years later to become the Deputy Chief Executive Learning Delivery.
Rotary Cans for a cause

It was so nice to have six members from the Mt. Victoria Club join us this week to hear the fabulous Nicole Skews Poole speak. It is always a pleasure to host friends from other clubs.
Changeover- who would you like invited?
The four meetings in June will be busy and exciting, the last one of course being our Changeover. I am preparing a guest list for this event. If there is anyone you would like to be invited, please let me know in the next week, so I can put them on the list. District Assembly

Port Nic rotary evening meetings once a month
From July we are going to trial having a rotary meeting one Wednesday evening a month.
The meetings will be held at the Wellington Club
They will be the 4th Wednesday in July, August and September
The cost will remain the same as the breakfast meetings.
The format will be similar to the breakfast meetings
A cash bar will be available
We look forward to your support and meeting your friends, family and colleagues who are interested in our Rotary meetings, but not so keen at the 7am start.

Perambulators latest adventure
The perambulators made the most of the stunning weather over the long weekend and walked up Colonial Knob, which is quite a trek. Many thanks for the great photos Bev and Peter.
Lifting the Lid update from David Shackleton
Kids on line
Last week Richard and I attended a “Kids on line” programme at South Wellington Intermediate School sponsored by LTL. The presentation was attended by almost 50 parents and was one of the most hard hitting we have ever attended. The programme outlined the violence, aggression and degradation available on line to the youth of today. The session offered practical strategies, including setting up filters and parental controls, establishing healthy screen time routines, and initiating open and age appropriate conversations about challenging topics like online predators and inappropriate content.
Wellington Airport Community Awards
On a brighter note, we have completed a nomination entry to the Wellington Airport Community Awards. We are keeping our fingers crossed we make the finals.
Communications
We signed up with the Community Communications Collective- a group of communication experts who give their time to not for profits who need assistance with their communication. They will help with our social media presence and government relations.
Growth of LTL
Finally, the programme is growing and has now been implemented by the Rotary Clubs of Porirua, Plimmerton and of course the four clubs in the Hutt. So, thanks to your support, we have started something truly meaningful.

Anchordown is a mission-driven social enterprise, helping organisations and communities prevent and respond to the growth of disinformation, online harm and polarisation. The company is run by Nicole Skews-Poole in collaboration with researchers and subject matter experts. Nicole delivered a compelling talk on the growing threat of Disinformation, its impact on institutions and communities, and how we can build resilience against it.
Alex Hockley – The story of the Wellington Heritage Festival.
Alex is born and bred Wellingtonian.
It is a publicly funded organization and is a region wide celebration of the people, place etc. that make up our culture. It is an opportunity for groups to share their stories.
