Thoughts from President Tony

It was special as a club this week to celebrate the arrival of Hayley’s little boy, a brother for Rio and no doubt a future Rotarian in the making. Mother and baby are very well and there are already bets on what the new member of the household will be called. For the moment he is ‘Murray’ but we are assured that this is a temporary reference!

It was also a highlight to induct Antz Zogg as a new member on Wednesday as he has been so impressed with the atmosphere in our club since he accompanied his friend Steve Lawton to a breakfast meeting a few weeks ago. Antz spoke very eloquently about the camaraderie which he said is very evident as people clearly enjoy the company of others and he is looking forward to engaging and the opportunities for networking. Antz also highlighted the amazing community work that conto use apace and the dedication of the club to a range of community causes and projects. On that theme our Auction/Dinner is next Friday and months of work from Paula and her committee will culminate in a very memorable evening.
I look forward to seeing many of you next Friday.
Here’s hoping for some fine spring weather ahead.

With the summer season coming on it is time to put your hand up and commit to one or more of these planned trips. Bookings need to made very soon if we are going to secure the desired dates for the Patuna Chasm walk and the Nydia Bay multi day hike. I know they both seem a long way off at the moment but popular destinations like these book up very quickly.

Invites for all the above will be sent out via Club Runner so be sure to reply early. Expressions for the Nydia Bay trip would be appreciated asap. Please contact Peter Whittington

Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) 2024

Applicants are sort from suitable young people (18-24 years) for the Rotary Youth Leadership Award in the latter half of January 2024.

RYLA is a five-day intensive, high energy, challenging, residential programme to develop young
leaders from District 9940. The RYLA programme recognises, encourages and educates current and future leaders by offering them an intensive leadership experience with the cooperation of
community and culture organisations, businesses, local and national leaders.

RYLA is an invaluable programme that brings together individuals to harness creativity, diversity,
inspiration, energy and leadership to cultivate personal growth and develop meaningful personal
change and harnessing their leadership potential.

John Pearson – Deputy Commissioner

John Pearson is a career Diplomat with 33 years experience and numerous overseas postings. Just 2 months into his deployment he is Acting High Commissioner while Iona Thomas has been visiting Pitcairn Island where she is dedicating a new marine protected area.
