“Together we make a Difference”
Kia ora

What a week! There we were enjoying freedom of movement and gatherings of people – a rare success story of a pandemic and the envy of the world. On 10th August we had gone 100 days without recording a locally transmitted Covid-19 case. Come 12th August and Auckland was put into L3 lockdown and the rest of the country on L2 and at time of writing 13 new cases. Was it because complacency had set in? For the time being our breakfast meetings will continue as usual, albeit under protocols the Wellington Club puts in place.

The Goalsetter Awards are one of the premier events of our club and what a standout event it was on 10th August- and in the nick of time before L2. Kahui Tihore and Melissa Dol, the two recipients that morning, gave inspiring and emotionally moving speeches, just as Hannah Gibson, the third recipient did at the club meeting on 5th August. Worthy recipients indeed. Special thanks to Jane and Richard for spearheading, organizing and executing the event and to members who attended. It was humbling to hear from Melissa’s aunty who commented after the event how informal, friendly and vibrant our club is contrary to her expectation that it was going to be a ‘snooty’ affair! She was pleasantly surprised and grateful. I hope she takes up my invitation to come to one our breakfast meetings and hopefully join!

The Rotary Club of Wellington has initiated inter club visits as part of its centennial year programme and have requested if its members can attend one of our breakfast meetings. We look forward to their attendance. Reciprocal visit to their lunch meetings is welcome.

Two reminders to members who have not yet responded to the following:
  •  health check questionnaire. Your feedback is important.
  • membership renewal subs for 2020-2021. Please contact me if you wish to talk about it.
See you all on Wednesday 19th. Our guest speaker is one of our members.

ngã mihi

Mike
