We've been doing good things!
A group of Perambulators hit the Paparoa Track, in Paparoa National Park down south. The 55km track was created as a memorial for the 29 miners who lost lives in the Pike River Mine disaster.
Peter reports that: "We had a great trip despite the rain and wind. Met some very friendly people at the huts and saw some fabulous sites. Already planning the next trip."

Board Update
At the last Board meeting Mike was thanked for updating the club’s constitution, and for next taking on updating the club bylaws. For the charities to be supported at this year’s Auction, the results of club member’s charity choice from the club survey was discussed. The Mallaghan Institute and the Wellington Children's Hospital were the top two on average score, with the Mallaghan Institute being top based on number of first choices. With the Rotary District going to present the Children's Hospital with $400k, it was decided to support the Mallaghan Institute again this year, paired with a smaller charity that would find it harder to raise funds. The Project Committee are going to look into the Women’s Refuge/Wellington Homeless Women’s Trust as the possible paired charity. Other Board points were: increasing goal setter’s prizes to $4k; applying to the John Ilott Charitable Trust for a grant to support Virtuoso Strings; developing a district grant to support the Wellington Homeless Shelter; and creating an Almaner role to support club members.

Tusha Penny: On Purpose and Privilege
Brenda Lazelle reports on Tusha's fantastic presentation last week in which she challenged us to consider – if you have a voice and privilege then you have a choice of how you use it.
On 13 October a bag was left behind at the Wellington Club after our meeting. The bag contained two bottles of wine (Bollinger) and a card.
It would be greatly appreciated if they could be returned to Tamaris ASAP.

New Zealand’s Rotary Centenary year: News item from New Zealand 100 years ago:
Waikato times, 20 October 1921: Rat destruction week. Attack on Rodents. Campaign in Hamilton.
A special week is to be devoted in Hamilton to the destruction of rats. This decision has been come to by the local Council, who will ask citizens generally to co-operate by trapping and poisoning. The Council is considering the question of providing free poison, and of utilizing as many borough employees and
vehicles as possible in its distribution on the day to be fixed. It is possible that a supply of poisoned raisins will be laid along all open drains, about rubbish tips, and along the river banks during rat destruction week.
