Wish for a Smile

Come and hear about the inspiring work Wish For A Smile does. It is a charitable trust run by the New Zealand Association of Orthodontists (NZAO). It is a group of specialist orthodontists who have provided free orthodontic treatment to more than 400 deserving young New Zealanders whose families would otherwise be unable to afford orthodontic care.

Another successful afternoon planting trees

Last Sunday a wonderful group of rotarians and interactors planted another 600 trees in Tawa. This is our second planting for 2024. Due to the numbers of volunteers it required only an hour or two activity and the team got a lovely view of the trees they have planted in previous years. It was great to see how they were thriving.

August Board Summary

Treasurer changes

We accepted the resignation from David Barnes as Treasurer. He realised the role was not in his skill set. I am proud of him for making such a brave and honest decision. Linda Wellington is going to step back into the role for this year. I am so appreciative of Linda’s offer.

A Grand Night out

Anne provided an update for our major fundraising event “A Grand Night Out” in October, and we recognised the generosity of restaurants who are participating.

Walk for Mental Health

Tony talked about the Walk for Mental Health to be held in February. Further

information will come on that event over the next months.

In September, you will receive a survey about the club. I encourage you to the complete is, as the results will form the basis of the Club Forum in November,

Suggested change to buy the box
Buying the Box payments are so easy to overlook now it is electronic. A suggestion was made that members could pay a one off $100 per annum for their Buy the Box 'credits' for the year. What do you think?

Succession planning

A group will look at succession planning for our club, which goes hand-in-hand with work in the membership sphere.

The daffodils on my driveway are all flowering, spring must be in the air. See you on Wednesday.

Richard Westlake with aviation in his DNA

Richard’s pedigree/whakapapa includes his father Group Captain George Westlake of the RAF and aviation in general which he reckons is in his DNA. In 1969 he got his private pilot’s licence but failed shortly afterwards to get his driving licence. Luckily his pilot’s licence stood him in good stead and before long he was in the RAF flying Hawker Hunters which he described as like driving a Jaguar in the air – it just felt right.
