Speaker for this week:

Jenny McDougall and Iona Elwood-Smith

Club Leaders of

CanSurvive Dragon Boat Club

The CanSurvive Dragon Boat Club provide dragon boat training and camaraderie for breast cancer survivors and other women on Wellington’s challenging harbour. Their members come from all over the Wellington area including the Hutt Valley, Kapiti Coast, and Wairarapa.

In 2024 a CanSurvive team won gold medals in all race distances in the breast cancer division at the World Club and Crews Championship in Ravenna, Italy. Following this achievement they were privileged to be voted as Wellington Sports Team of the Year 2025 at the recent Āti Awa Toa Wellington Regional Sports Awards.

Their topic is "CanSurvive Dragon Boat team." They have compelling stories to share about personal journeys, and the impact of teamwork and perseverance leading to sporting success

President Nicole

 Hello,

It has been a lovely social week with our informal breakfast at L'affaire, and walk and picnic at Philippa and Tony's  at Otaki on Sunday. Their plans for the land are impressive and will keep them fit. No need for gym memberships. It was very generous of them to host us, and we hope to see Philippa and Tony at other rotary social events.

Noel and Anne Hare also joined the walk and picnic, so we had a great catch up with them.

This week we are delighted to be inducting Rod Badcock and welcome Jane Paterson back. Such a positive was to start the Rotary year.

Looking forward to seeing you all on Wednesday.

Nicole

Snapshots from the Otaki Walk and picnic

After our walk Tony took us for a tour of the property Philippa and he have bought. Then we had a lovely lunch on their terrace looking out to Kapiti Island. It was a very pleasant way to spend a Sunday.

Breakfast at L'affaire

It was a buzzy morning with everyone catching up after the new year and we also had an opportunity to wish Edward happy 80th birthday.
