This week bring your 'cans for a cause'
 
Help Rotary NZ achieve its goal of donating 1 million cans of food to foodbanks this month. Please bring your donations to our rotary meeting this week. The food most in need is-
canned fish, baked beans, spaghetti, canned veges, canned fruit, soup, diced tomatoes, spreads rice, pasta and cereals.

Jacqui Jago- Bellyful Wellington West Charity

Her topic is "Challenges and Direction."

Bellyful provides up to three nights of meals to whānau with babies or children under 12 who are facing challenges such as illness, bereavement, stress, isolation, pregnancy, miscarriage, or baby loss – regardless of financial situation. They help families without a support network. The meals are generously cooked and delivered by volunteers, who do their best to be in touch within five working days.

Jacqui is a stay at home Mum and at the start of 2011, started Bellyful Karori (now Bellyful Wellington West) the first Bellyful branch outside of Auckland.
Rotary Cans for a cause
This is a New Zealand wide rotary project. Please bring your cans this week and David Barnes will kindly deliver them to the local food banks. Many thanks for your support.

Thank you so much to Paula and Rick who are chairing the Projects Committee, until Nicole appoints a new Chair. The committee will be working hard between now and October, organising our Grand Night Out. Once appointed, Rick and Paula will assist the new chair to learn how the committee runs.
 
Mary Potter Hospice thank you
We received a certificate of thanks from the Mary Potter Hospice, for helping them on their appeal day. The accompanying letter noted that more was raised than last year, a great result for them. Many thanks to David S for organising the roster.

Let’s plant trees to help our planet! 
Sunday 13 July - 1pm to 3.30pm 
Please join us for our annual tree planting on Sunday 4 June at 1.00pm with The Friends of Tawa's Bush Reserves for the seventh year.  Our goal is to build on what we have done in the last six years – over 4800 trees in total!  
Tree planting is for everyone.  You don’t have to be super fit to join us.  There are several jobs to choose from or you could do some of each such as:  digging holes; planting trees, setting out trees for planting, picking up the tree packets for reusing, and / or contributing to the afternoon tea.  There are lots of ways to contribute and everybody is welcome to come along.

Our wonderful speaker from Te Kura
This week we had the engaging Te Rina Leonard speaking about Te Kura, (the Correspondence school) and the essential education they are providing to young people across the country. Te Kura is part of the Lifting the Lid programme and Te Rina can be seen here with Richard Brodie and David Shackleton. Please see below for the full report. Many thanks Howard.

Women of Poneke is a group of Wellington women with a vision to inspire, connect and uplift the voices of Wellington women - and help to contribute to the future of “our place”. Founded by eight women with shared passions, including Lou Aitken, the lead speaker. The group organises quarterly events with themes like "me, we, Poneke" (learning, collective support, and positivity).

The company is run by Nicole Skews-Poole in collaboration with researchers and subject matter experts.  Nicole delivered a compelling talk on the growing threat of Disinformation, its impact on institutions and communities, and how we can build resilience against it.

Port Nic rotary evening meetings once a month
From July we are going to trial having a rotary meeting one Wednesday evening a month.  
  • The meetings will be held at the Wellington Club
  • They will be the 4th Wednesday in July, August and September
  • The cost will remain the same as the breakfast meetings. 
  • The format will be similar to the breakfast meetings 
  • A cash bar will be available 
We look forward to your support and meeting your friends, family and colleagues who are interested in our Rotary meetings, but not so keen at the 7am start.
