John Bishop

Many of us had the honour to attend John’s funeral on Thursday the 19th. Befitting John it was a grand affair. How many Rotarians could claim to have the Prime Minister, at least half the cabinet and a couple of knights present at their funerals? However, what was memorable for many of us was how little we really knew of John’s earlier career. John had an outstanding career in journalism, public relations and marketing..

Cancer survivor, patient advocate and ambassador for the Malaghan Institute

David Downs is a business leader, public servant, consultant, board director, speaker and genetically modified organism. David is now CEO of The New Zealand Story, an ambitious government-funded organisation marketing New Zealand to the world.

His topic will be, "Innovation, technology and why you should always wear clean undies."

Privacy- Gavin Knight

Gavin provided us with an overview of the Privacy Act (2020) and outlined the things we can do to meet our obligations. The Information Privacy Principles are Collecting information, Holding it, Using and Disposing of it. Under the heading collecting information, it has to be necessary and you should only collect information from the person directly not via a third party. It must also be transparent in that the purpose the information is collect for is clear to the individual. Holding information requires security safeguards that are reasonable and that individuals can have access to their information. It should also be noted that individuals have the right to correct personal information.

Congratulations Lindsay

Well done Lindsay with winning a literary award at the recent New Zealand Postcard Society annual seminar in Christchurch. Lindsay won the Chas Lilley award 2024 for the best published article in the “Postcard Pillar”, journal of the New Zealand Postcard Society Incorporated.
