What are we raising funds for?

A years supply of linen packs for the Wellington Homeless Women’s Trust for women when they move to independent living. This includes essential linen (sheets, pillows, duvet inners and covers, towels plus a toaster and electric jug). We have been able purchase all these items for $100.00 per pack – approx: retail value $480.

What can you play at the 'Casino'?
Roulette, Blackjack, Poker, Under & Overs (7s), and our famous horse racing. The game rules have been simplified to allow everyone to participate and have a fun night. Playing chips will be provided on entry and returned at the end of the evening with no actual financial value.

The affordable $35 donation to WHWT cost covers..
Playing chips, supper, cash bar, raffles- including 4 nights at the Waiheke Island Resort, a Waiarapa, accommodation package including car, a bbq setting with tools, market umbrella, outside chairs plus plus. EFPOS available on the night.

Asa is Founder and CEO at Arcanum.ai. He is a self-proclaimed AI optimist based in Wellington and has 4 kids under the age of 10. He uses ChatGPT daily and is passionate about unlocking the value of AI techology. He now helps HealthTech and Medtech companies integrate machine learning into their software.

Lifting the Lid Achievements to date

This week Jane reported on progress of Lifting the Lid initiative; to date with 23 students having already being directly helped.

Record levels of distress in young people in Aotearoa

Everywhere we look we see evidence of young people needing help. The Treasury publication "Trends in Wellbeing in Aotearoa NZ" reports 'Loneliness is now highest among people aged between 15 and 24 with psychological distress increasing markedly between 2020 and 2021. It now stands at record levels, rising from 5% in 2012 to nearly 20% in 2021.

But for those over 55...

By contrast over 55 year olds' distress has fallen these past years to just 5% today. New Zealand has become a country for oldies to enjoy while the young silently drown. The concerns that young people have had about saving the world from itself have given way to anxiety about personal survival.'

I believe that the "Lifting the LId" project could not be more important and I am proud of Rotary's commitment and especially our own club's leadership.

Look forward to seeing you all again on Wednesday when we have another exciting speaker to keep us on the edge of our seats.

Books on different world cultures and sports. Thanks to FIFA we have experienced 32 different cultures in NZ over the month and sport brings us together in competition and celebration.

Come along with books to share and to discuss. If you are reading a new book bring that along to share
