Howard provided us with an entertaining talk about himself, and his involvement with Rotary on Wednesday. The consummate presenter, he even had everyone on their feet at one stage. Our final 35th anniversary speaker is Rob Whitney, who will share his Rotary story and recollections.
When listening to, and watching the news at present, I am reminded of some of Sheena’s speech at Government House and how worried young people are about their futures, the state of the economy, the effect of climate change, and the areas of political and cultural unrest around the world. Now, even before the Opening Ceremony of the Olympics, we have scandal and potential sabotage. This makes our efforts with Lifting the Lid all the more important. Let’s all get behind our fabulous Projects Committee as they plan a major fundraising event in these difficult times.
It was so good to see Haley and the boys on Wednesday. How fast they are growing. It was also nice to have Tamaris and Nicole back from their travels. Others who have been away or unwell will be back in the next week or so and it will be good to have our usual numbers present on Wednesday again.

Tree Planting

Jamaica Drive Tawa
We are partnering again with the Friends of Tawa Bush Reserves (Tawabush.org.nz) for a final tree planting for this year with a goal to plant 1,000 native trees to add to the 1,700 trees we’ve planted this year.
Dress for the winter weather, bring water, gardening gloves and a spade (bring spares to share if you have them.

Did you know that 1 in 3 Kiwis will face a cancer diagnosis in their lifetimes? That's a lot of people affected by cancer, and it clearly shows the growing demand for services funded by your support on Daffodil Day.

We were privileged to hear a most interesting talk by Howard Tong. He has a background of music, teaching rail, computers and was a District Governer in Rotary in 2010.
Jean joined Port Nicholson Rotary Club in late 1989 shortly after the club came into existence. The fact that she was not of the male persuasion was not a problem for Port Nicholson.
