A successful year but within the context of a difficult year; that was the message from Immediate Past President David’s Shackleton’s report at the club’s AGM this week.
David ran the AGM last week and reviewed the past year, which had a focus on strengthening our Rotary commitment, good member relations, and working with youth, ultimately making the club stronger.
2019 was a successful year with over 500 trees planted, the ambulance appeal completed with the ambulance sent to Samoa, 35 events and intense fund-raising for the Children’s hospital. While the Goal Setters’ Awards and the auction were cancelled, the Awards event eventually took place in August and the raffle is proving to be a good substitute for the auction. There has also been strong fund-raising activity with street collections, market parking and community initiatives such as clean-ups, the poetry project and funding young people for leadership and science events.
There continued to be regular social events outside of club meetings, including the perambulators and Friday night dinners.
A further highlight is the growing membership with 51 members now part of RCPN.
Other highlights included high member satisfaction (while pointing to opportunities to improve further) and a deepening of the club’s connections with Rotaract and Interact.
Meetings were disrupted by Covid during the latter part of the 19/20 year but kept going through the smart use of Zoom technology. This enabled members to keep in touch and maintain continuity and were well attended.
Nick presented the financial accounts and, while our financials have suffered because of Covid, our overall financial health is solid. There were some losses from some events we had but the Board has quickly put in place protocols to ensure this does not occur in the future.
David thanked the 2019/20 Board for their hard work and, in turn, Bev Wells thanked David for his service to the club and for his successful year as President.
Steve Lawton and Noel Winsloe were both involved during the meeting.
What do you think they are discussing?!! ......and....
Do you think they were caught out?!!
