Tree Planting with Friends of Tawa's Bush
Jul 13, 2025 1:00 PM - 3:30 PM

Let’s plant trees to help our planet!

Sunday 13 July - 1pm to 3.30pm

Please join us for our annual tree planting on Sunday 13 July at 1.00pm with The Friends of Tawa's Bush Reserves for the seventh year.  Our goal is to build on what we have done in the last six years – over 4800 trees in total!  We will continue planting native trees in Tawa to regenerate our native Bush to provide habitat and food for the increasing numbers of native birds, provide walking areas for us all to enjoy, and to help slow down climate change.  This is open to everyone including family and friends so please invite lots of people to help.  Interact and Rotaract members are very welcome to join us so please let them know about this opportunity.

Tree planting is for everyone.  You don’t have to be super fit to join us.  There are several jobs to choose from or you could do some of each such as:  digging holes; planting trees, setting out trees for planting, picking up the tree packets for reusing, and / or contributing to the afternoon tea.  There are lots of ways to contribute and everybody is welcome to come along.

If you would like to take part, please accept this invitation and provide your contact phone number and email address.  I am coordinating the Club’s participation and can be reached on 021 265 6220 or email landm.king@xtra.co.nz

If you’re joining us for the tree planting here are the details:

  • The planting this year will be at Caribbean Drive, Grenada North which was one of our three planting sites last year.
  • We will park where the road is wider before the gate unless you have mobility issues and in that case you can drive up to the site.
  • We will meet at the site by 1pm.
  • If you’re coming via public transport or you need a ride then please contact me (Lisa King 0212656220) and I will find someone to drive you to the planting site
  • If you can provide anyone with a ride to the tree planting please let me know
  • There is no water so please bring water with you
  • There are no toilets near the planting site – there are public toilets in Tawa at Willow Bank Park off Takapu Road by the Bucket Tree Motel if you need a comfort stop on your way to the planting.
  • At the planting site we will have a brief introduction, health and safety talk and planting demonstration on the site at 1pm.
  • Please bring your own spade and gardening gloves.  If you don’t have a spade feel free to borrow one from a friend or you could help with planting instead.  If you have a spare spade(s), please bring it along as not everyone will have one.  I have one spare spade and several spare gloves which I will bring.
  • Wear clothing appropriate to the weather.  It’s a windy location.
  • I’ll coordinate afternoon tea.  If you’d like to contribute to the afternoon tea please let me know.
  • I’ll contact you if the weather on the day is unsuitable for planting and we will reschedule.  Please enter your mobile phone number when you accept this invitation so I can reach you easily.  Our postponement date will be Sunday 20 July – hopefully we won’t need it
  • Let’s aim to plant at least 500 trees!
  • If you need to reach me either email me landm.king@xtra.co.nz and/or text/phone 021 265 6220.

Please register by Friday 4 July, so that I can contact you if we need to postpone.

Please register any family and friends in the comments section so I know how many we have attending - all are welcome.

Thank you.

Ngā mihi

Lisa King

Perambulators Walk - Dry Creek Loop and Lunch
Jul 20, 2025 9:30 AM - 1:00 PM

Perambulators Hike Dry Creek Loop

coffee or lunch afterward (place to be decided)

Sunday 20 July

9.15 meeting for 9.30 start

This perambulation will start at the Dry Creek Campsite - entrance off Haywards Hill near the quarry on the Lower Hutt side - please ask if you are not sure - Peter or Lou will be able to help.

Dry Creek Loop is a well-formed and well-marked track easy to follow. The beginning is steep but once you have gained a bit of altitude the rest is up and down and very manageable. There are amazing views from the top and along the walk. The track is about 8km and should take us about 2 - 3 hours.

Bring a drink and snacks for a wee break at the top, good walking (hiking) shoes, jacket, poles (if you have them), hat and gloves. The weather can change so make sure you have enough clothes with you if it turns cold or wet.

At the end of the hike we will go to a Cafe (place to be decided) and have either  coffee or some lunch - or both!

Bring family and friends - all welcome.

Register so we have an idea of who is coming - but it will be also OK for extras to turn up on the day.

Looking forward to this one - see you there.

Lou and Peter
