FLASH BACK FRIDAY - MEAN DOSES BAR 66 TORY STREET - UPSTAIRS 12pm Friday 6 March 2026 Howard recently said to me, "Lou, let's kick the year off with a visit to Mean Doses, Tory Street. The guy who runs it is "Dean Moses" (great spoonerism) and he is keen to open early for us to come and sample a few of their beers and eat some delicious food from either Apache or their in house catering. We have been there before, some years ago - so it will be great to go back and revisit them and give them some custom. Please feel free to bring along friends and family. With so many places closing in the CBD it would be great to support another bar and brewery that we are so lucky to have right on our doorstep, with as many people as we can get. Please can I have registrations in by Wednesday 4 March 6pm - don't forget to register friends and family when you do your own registration so that we can give Dean some numbers :) Looking forward to our first Flash Back of the year!!! Mar 08, 2026 9:30 AM - 2:00 PM
Eastbourne walk followed by picnic / bbq in Days Bay
This walk is scheduled for 8 March and being led by Nicole, details are as follows:
Valley Walk
We will start at the corner of Kowhai St and Muritai Rd at 9.30am and walk along to to the Muritai Park track. Then there is a good climb up to the ridge followed by a downhill to the beautiful valley floor, which we walk along following the small river. Then have another good hill climb back up to the ridge and down to Kowhai St where the cars are parked.
Poles and tramping boots are recommended to make the walk more enjoyable.
It takes us about 1.5 hours to walk so it will probably take 2-2.5 hours for the group. We recommend a reasonable level of hill fitness.
Picnic Lunch
Lunch is at our place from 12 onwards at 5 Tui Rd Days Bay. People are welcome to just join us for the picnic /BBQ. They can catch the ferry over if they like as we are about 500 metres from the Days Bay Wharf.
If people could bring a plate to share like we did at Phillipa's that would be great. We will provide the meat for the BBQ. Children are welcome as we have the park and beach in walking distance. :)
FYI we do have roadworks around here as they are building the cycleway (due to finish in March/April). They should not be working on a Sunday but just to be sure I would encourage people to use google maps to check on the time it takes to get here. Nicole
Please can you register for this walk for yourself, friends and family by Friday 6 March 9am,
Lets hope the weather stays fine. Come for the walk or just for lunch - it will be lovely to have everyone enjoying the beautiful scenery that Eastbourne offerrs and sharing food together. Huge thanks to Nicole for leading and hosting :)

Port Nic Gardeners Let's get out there and have some fun. We all enjoy our annual rolling up of sleeves, donning of gumboots and having lovely time making our auction recipients gardens look fabulous. This year we will be doing some weeding on a completely flat garden in Golf Road, Heretaunga - an easy 20 minute drive from the city. Nothing too strenuous at all (this time!). We will follow this with a light lunch and a cuppa. Some of you golfers may well be keen on going for a round afterwards. |

This week our speaker is Grainne Moss CEO Ministry of Regulation and ocean Swimmer Born in Northern Ireland and now living in New Zealand, Gráinne Moss captured the attention of the world in 1987, becoming the first Irish woman to swim the English Channel, at just 17 years of age. Moss’s story is one of resilience, endurance, and achievement, both as a swimmer and in public life. Moss’s achievements in 1987 heralded the start of a truly remarkable open-water journey. From victories in Ireland’s open-water championships and the ‘Irish Triple Crown’, Moss has broken records and pushed the boundaries on what Irish swimmers can achieve. Her accolades are not confined to Irish waters, either. In 2001, Moss became the first Irish swimmer to swim the notorious Cook Strait between New Zealand’s North and South Islands, as well as conquering many other well known channels. Since calling New Zealand home, Moss has built a career as one of the country’s most senior public servants. The same qualities that carry her through bitterly cold seas have shaped her leadership on land: endurance, clarity of purpose and a willingness to take on challenges. Please register yourself and any guests for next week's meeting no later than 6pm Sunday 29 March with details of any dietary requirements, so that we can advise attendance information to the Wellington Club.
