Reminder Tree Planting Part 2
Aug 14, 2022 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM

REMINDER

Let’s plant trees to help our planet!  Tree Planting Part 2 - Sunday 14 August 1pm

A small group of us planted 250 native trees in Tawa during the first half of our mission to plant 500 native trees this year with the Friends of Tawa Bush Reserves.

It’s now time for the second half of this important work – to plant the other 250 trees in Tawa on  Sunday 14 August at 1pm.

Our goal is to keep building on what we have done in the four previous years planting native trees in Tawa.  This is helping to regenerate our native Bush to provide habitat and food for the increasing numbers of native birds, to make lovely walking areas for us all, and to help slow down climate change.  Everyone is very welcome including family and friends – the more the merrier!  Interact and Rotaract members are very welcome to join us!  We had a huge turnout from Interact last year and again in June this year.  We’ve now planted about 2200 trees.

If you would like to take part, please contact Lisa King (landm.king@xtra.co.nz or 021 265 6220).

Lisa is Director of our Community Services Committee and also a member of Friends of Tawa Bush Reserves so she is coordinating our Club’s participation.

Let Lisa know your mobile phone number and email address so she can send you full details about the tree planting and so she can contact you if we need to defer the tree planting for any reason.   Thank you for helping us with this important initiative.

Please ensure you have registered for this event by 5pm Thursday 11 August, so Lisa has time to contact you with details of the address etc.

Flashback Friday at The Hudson
Sep 02, 2022 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM

Dear all long lunchers, craft beer and foodies

With this dreary weather lets get out and have a long Friday lunch at...

The Hudson, 56 Victoria Street, Te Aro, Wellington 6011 on 2 September 12 oclock.

A couple of us checked this venue out after our Ale and Pie lunch (a big thanks needs to go to Joy for her time organiing that event).

The Hudson has 16 rotating taps pouring an ever changing range of local craft beer & a whiskey & cocktail bar, plus a delicious brunch and all day food menu.

It is centrally located for those working in the CBD, allowing you to come and join the long lunchers, during your lunch break :)

Bring along friends and family, lets get out of the cold and enjoy each others company.

Please RSVP by 1 September 12pm, so I can let the restaurant know :) Don't forget to register your guests so we can keep track of numbers.

This is a pay as you go event.

Looking forward to seeing you there,

Louise

Perambulators Walk - An Oldie but a Goodie
Sep 18, 2022 9:30 AM - 2:00 PM

Cannon Point Walkway, including Brichville Dam

We have done this walk several times over the years but not recently.  It is reasonably easy going, so suitable for most levels of fitness. We will start and finish at Tulsa Park, plenty of parking.  Take State Highway 2 to Upper Hutt, then turn onto Totara Park Road and continue to the end of the street where you’ll find Tulsa Park.

https://www.wellingtonregionaltrails.com/trails/cannon-point-walkway/

Start time is 9.30am from the car park.  Obligatory coffee to finish at one of the local cafes, we will advise location in due course.

There has not been a perambulators for a few months so come on out, blow the cobwebs away while getting to chat with fellow members and friends.  Bring a snack and something to drink while you enjoy the view from the top.

RSVP by Friday 16 September please ensure you include a contact phone number so we can get hold of you in the unlikely event we have to postpone.

Volunteers will be outside the Wellington Railway Station from early morning till around lunchtime, luring commuters with that unmistakable bacon smell, and raising funds to go towards Rotary's ongoing fight against Polio.

Dear long lunchers,

Yes we have another Flashback Friday on 4 November and the Fork and Brewer at 12 oclock.

Fork and Brewer is at 20A Bond Street, in the central city.

They have a great range of tap beers and the food isnt too shabby either.

Please feel free to bring along partners, spouses and/or friends, just add thier names to the comments box, so I know the numbers we have going.

It is in a nice central part of town, so if you are working and want to pop in for a bit to join us you can :)

Please register by 9am Thursday 3 November so I can let them know numbers and they can hold a table for us.

Kind regards

Louise :)

Perambulators Walk The Escarpment
Nov 27, 2022 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM

With summer on the way it must be time for a walk.

Where: Pukerua Bay to Paekākāriki Escarpment Track.

Meet at Pukerua Bay Train Station.

When: Sunday 27 November 2022, leaving 10:00 am

What we are in for:  With Medium grade/effort, experience this stunning walk with its rewarding views. There are some extended ascending flights of steps (required to get said view), and the track is narrow in places with steep drop-offs (required to promote adrenalin). A rough section of track leads walkers on a brief but steep bypass up and beyond a section of the original track which is being repaired. A rope helps walkers over this section.

Probably one to bypass if vertigo is an issue. Please call Ross (021 467737) if doubt exists.

Weather permitting we will set off from Pukerua Bay Railway Station at 10.00 am - there is a scheduled train departing WLG at 0914 getting to Pukerua Bay at 0950 though check for alerts as these services can change at short notice.

Parking is available at Pukerua Bay Train Station if you choose to come by car.

We will enjoy one of the cafes at Paekakariki before returning to Pukerua Bay by train (which depart every 30 mins).

RSVP no later than Friday night 25 November 2022

If coming please include your mobile number with the registration.

Also please put next of kin/phone a friend name and contact number in the comments box. We need this in the unlikely event of an incident arising.

Ensure you are prepared for changes in the weather so rain jacket and warm layers are essential. Bring water as there is none on the track.

Check out the links below for more information on the track and some of its history:

Note that dogs are NOT allowed on this track.

Final Rotary Club meeting for year
Dec 14, 2022 7:00 AM - 8:30 AM

It's finally here - our last meeting of the year - roll on 2023

Dear all

This week will be Bubbles and Strawberries and our final speaker...

Lisa Jones

Chair of Affordable Sports for Greater Wellington

Five sports codes came together naming themselves Affordable Sports for Greater Wellington, and lobbied to reduce facility fees and demanding a review to lower the cost of playing sport in the region.

Campaign chair Lisa Jones will talk to us about how a large portion of players’ subscriptions currently go to council, more than in most other parts of the country. Her group believes that high costs affect participation in sport.

Make this one a must attend meeting.

Come along listen to what Lisa has to say, as I am sure this has an impact on your children or grandchildren

and ...

Wish all your friends a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

Looking forward to seeing you all there.

Kind regards

Louise

Perambulators Christmas Walk and BBQ
Dec 18, 2022 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM

The Christmas Perambulators walk will return to the hills overlooking Karori again this year on Sunday, December 18th.

Beginning on Homewood Ave, Karori, a moderate level walk into the bush will skirt the Karori Cemetery and enter the birdsong-filled Johnson Hill/Otari bush woodlands.

In just over an hour, the trails lead us up a switchback to the pine forest above Otari Bush and back down past the cemetery to finish on lower Johnson Hill.   (A shorter version of this walk can be achieved by branching back around through the cemetery and up Karori Road to Homewood Ave.)

Walkers should be at 47 Homewood Ave ready for a 9:30am start.  Non walkers can assemble leisurely in the garden from 11 am.

Please RSVP to David Shackleton (davidianshack@gmail.com) and include in your email what you would like to contribute to the lunch.  As in past years we will begin a roster for food requirements so that we have a balanced menu for lunch.

RSVP ASAP but no later than Friday 16 December
