Annual Tree Planting - Tawa's Bush Reserves I hope you can join us for our annual tree planting on Sunday 13 June at 1.00pm. The Rotary Club of Port Nicholson has teamed up with The Friends of Tawas Bush Reserves for the fourth year in a row to plant trees at Woodburn Bush Reserve, 66 Bing Lucas Drive, Tawa. Our goal is to build on what we did the last two years – over 1500 trees in total! We will continue planting native trees in Tawa to regenerate our native Bush to provide habitat and food for the increasing numbers of native birds, to make lovely walking areas for us all, and to help slow down global warming. Interact and Rotaract members are very welcome to join us. Tree planting is for everyone. You don’t have to be super fit to join us. There are several jobs to choose from or you could do some of each such as: digging holes; planting trees, setting out trees for planting, and picking up the tree packets for reusing. Another option is to help out with the afternoon tea. There are lots of ways to contribute and everybody is welcome to come along. If you’re joining us for the tree planting here are the details:
If you would like to take part, please accept this invitation and provide your contact phone number. I am coordinating the Club’s participation and can be reached on 021 265 6220 or email landm.king@xtra.co.nz We hope to see you on Sunday 13th June at 1pm.
Best wishes Lisa King |

Fun Celebration Dinner at Bellamys by Logan Brown Bellamys is one of the true culinary destinations of Wellington. We have booked a table (or two) at this iconic restaurant for Rotary friends and family to celebrate the beginning of the new Rotary year and the new Port Nicholson team. A short walk from the formal event, at The Wellington Club, and you will be dining in luxury for the price of a family meal at the golden arches. This is a strictly pay as you go event, so individual accounts, but I suggest you should consider sharing a bottle or two of wine with your neighbours, to get the best out of the night. For a glimpse of the menu check out: https://www.bellamysbyloganbrown.co.nz/new-zealand-cuisine Cost is $45 for two courses and $60 for 3 courses per person. I am expecting the majority will be 2 courses, entree and main or main and dessert. Drinks are extra. Everyone needs to be pre-booked. Due to the security arrangements at Bellamys there is ZERO possibility of you being able to "front up on the night". RSVP no later than 23 June. Places are limited. If you have special dietary requirements, please describe in the comments box so I can advise the Chef accordingly. I will come back to you if he is unable to meet your demands. |

Sep 01, 2021 6:11 PM - Sep 05, 2021 11:59 PM
The demand for the services of the City Mission, especially their grocery and food service, is at an umprecented high. We have not been able to provide our normal support to the City Mission for the last 2 months. We have not had a Rotary breakfast for 3 weeks now so your member account will be looking quite flush with funds. To combine those things it was agreed at the Club Zoom meeting tonight that we would try to get every member of the club to donate the equivalent of a Rotary meal to the City Mission. We have made it easy for you. All you have to do is to register for this event. The cost of a meal, $27, will be deducted from your member account, transferred to the Charitable Trust account as a donation and then paid in bulk to the City Mission. We should be able to raise close to $1,500 for the City Mission very quickly and easily. Every donation will receive a tax receipt from the RCPN Charitable Trust. Click Register and help the City Mission in this time of exaggerated need. By registering you will be agreeing to have your members account charged $27 as a donation to the City MIssion. You may of course opt to donate a larger sum. Just enter the sum in the comments box. You have until midnight on Sunday to respond. DO IT NOW! |

What - Flashback Friday Where - Fork and Brewer Address - 20 Bond Street Te Aro Wellington Time - 12 - 2 Dear all It's time again for a long Friday lunch - this time at the Fork and Brewer in the city. We have a booking for 12pm and I have checked that thye are ready for us. I have been in contact with Lane this morning and he says the following: Good morning Louise! TGIF! That booking is absolutely still possible, really appreciate you checking in!
We will be following Level 2 restrictions as per, so it'll be all table service (which we would have done anyway!) and no masks are required once you're seated & settled drinking/eating! We'll give you a nice big table so you have lots of room together.
That's the key things I can think off of the top of my head - I'm sure it'll all run smoothly, and we don't need a preorder for food or anything - it'll be dandy!
If you have any questions feel free to shoot them back at me :-)
Cheers

Requested by popular demand to be repeated due to the difficult conditions encountered in August. Meet at Horoeka Park, Horoeka Street, Stokes Valley at 9.30am. Experience stunningly beautiful bush as you walk up hill and down. Enjoy the vistas of valley and harbour from the ECNZ Rd on top. Duration expected to be 2.25 to 3 hours, depending on final route. This is a loop track. Bring something for morning tea at the top. If it is sunny and warm we will stop briefly. Following the walk we will have coffee and other goodies at the Turmeric Cafe in Stokes Valley. Boots or stout shoes are definitely recommended for this walk, You may also like to bring a pole. I suggest 1 is enough, 2 will prevent you using the available trees for assistance. There is a steep section for about 20 to 30 minutes that will challenge you. Good training for those doing Paparoa in October so load up your pack, strap on your boots and start walking. See attached document for more details. For those that would like a gentler shorter route Howard Tong will lead a walk around the Horoeka Loop. It is a walk of about 2 kms through some lovely bush with interesting inhabitants that could be spin offs from Hobbiton. This walk will start at 10.30am and also finish with coffee at the same cafe. Please put "Howards walk" in the comments box if you are planning to do this.

BRING: You need to bring your own plates, cutlery, glasses, cups and beverages. Don’t forget to bring warm clothing and be prepared for wet, just in case. (It can be chilly on the ferry). Sunscreen and hats a must. Bring your own snacks and morning tea. If you would like tea or coffee, bring your thermos or at least your own tea bag. A bottle of water is always a good idea. All rubbish and leftovers including any wrapping need to be taken off the island with you. Nothing you brought onto the Island stays, except maybe your footprints. COSTS: Yet to be finalised but allow $12 each way on the ferry, plus $8 per person for the Caretaker’s Hut rental and bbq lunch. Children under five travel free on the ferry. Five to 15 years of age, plus College attendees with student ID, $13 return on the Ferry. Sorry, no Gold Card discounts available on the ferry for a specially commissioned sailing.
