Reminder to all those who havent registered but are keen to come and have some fun on Matuia Somes Island.
Perambulators Xmas BBQ lunch Saturday 4 December
If you havent registered please do so by 5pm Sunday 28 November - this Sunday :) Saturday 4 December we are heading off-shore for the traditional Perambulators BBQ. All welcome. Not quite overseas but not the mainland either. Catching the East-West Ferry from Queens Wharf to Matui-Somes, we will be greeted by DOC personnel for an induction/information briefing on the history of the Island and all of the do’s and don’ts. Spend a couple of hours exploring the island, its flora and fauna, history and of course the magnificent views around the harbour. Meet back at the Caretaker’s Hut for a bbq and lots of socialising, before making our way back to the mainland. We have booked 50 places on the ferry and could take more if required. We need a minimum of 40 to make this happen. WHEN: Saturday 4 December. Ferry leaves at 8.45am from Queen’s Wharf WHAT: BBQ will be supplied as part of the cost. We will provide meat patties, sausages, sauce, bread and butter and salad for you to make your own burger sandwiches. Sorry, special dietary needs will need to be self-catered. BRING: You need to bring your own plates, cutlery, glasses, cups and beverages. Don’t forget to bring warm clothing and be prepared for wet, just in case. (It can be chilly on the ferry). Sunscreen and hats a must. Bring your own snacks and morning tea. If you would like tea or coffee, bring your thermos or at least your own tea bag. A bottle of water is always a good idea. All rubbish and leftovers including any wrapping need to be taken off the island with you. Nothing you brought onto the Island stays, except maybe your footprints. COSTS: Yet to be finalised but allow $12 each way on the ferry, plus $8 per person for the Caretaker’s Hut rental and bbq lunch. Children under five travel free on the ferry. Five to 15 years of age, plus College attendees with student ID, $13 return on the Ferry. Sorry, no Gold Card discounts available on the ferry for a specially commissioned sailing.
We will return from the Island between 1 and 3 pm. This is subject to confirmation with East West Ferries. Please RSVP a.s.a.p but no later than 5pm 28 November so we can organise food etc. Any questions contact Joy 021 620557 joy@prosperity.co.nz or Peter 021 778300 syrahnz@gmail.com |

Club Forum
An opportunity for members to voice any concerns or issues
Our final meeting for the year is next Wednesday 15 December and will be a Club Forum. A Club Forum is an opportunity for all members to air concerns and issues relating to our Club. The important thing about a Club Forum is that there is no agenda, members can bring up matters at the meeting. Helen Algar has been asked to facilitate this as a neutral and independent moderator.
Please make the most of this opportunity. If you have any concerns or issues, this is the time to air them and for the Club to work to have them resolved.
Guests will not be invited to this meeting.

Looking forward to seeing you all at our meeting on Wednesday. Kind regards Louise

Perambulation of Makara Coastal walk incl the Opua Walkway and Quartz Hill/Meridian wind farm on Sunday 8 May 2022. This walk is interesting and varied including a marine coastal walk around the Makara Coast to Opua Bay with its various wildlife. Followed by a relatively easy walk up the Opua Walkway which takes in some pre European habitation. We will ascend to the old Post Office buildings at Quartz Hill where the telegrams used to arrive from overseas in the 1920-1950’s and the Meridian wind farm. Return will be via the Fort Opau WW2 coastal defences and an old Pa site along the hillside coastal track above the beach. A start time of 9.30 at Makara Beach. If anyone wants to car pool a good place to do this would be near the Zealandia over flow car park in Birdwood Street just through the Karori Tunnel meeting at 9.00 which will give enough time to get to Makara Beach by 9.30. Walk takes around 3.45 hours which will ensure we are back at the Karori Park Café for a bite to eat a little after 1 pm. Give Rick a call if you want any more info on 499 0444 or 022 071 0064. NOTE:
