Aug 01, 2019 7:30 PM - 10:30 PM
The Hudson, Cnr Victoria St and Chews Lane. The Club has booked the mezzanine floor at The Hudson for club members and friends to enjoy a celebratory dinner following the Mayoral reception on 1 August 2019. 1 August is the first night of Wellington on a Plate, a time when restaurants throughout the City produce exciting and interesting dishes outside of their normal menu. What better way to combine two celebratory events, in one night, by joining your fellow members and friends over dinner at one of Wellington’s exciting eating establishments. The Hudson is reknowned for its craft beers on tap, its speciality gin bar, its cocktails and of course the food served in its restaurant. There is a set menu of 2 courses for $40 or $55 for 3. If you wish to add in the festival dish (2 sides of venison) the price will go up by approximately $5. The final menu and pricing will be confirmed shortly. Individual bills will be produced by the Hudson so you will only need to pay for what you consume. There are a limited number of seats available so reservations are essential and will be allocated on a first come basis – please register your intention early. Your guests are also welcome. We need responses by 5pm Monday 22 August at the latest. Any questions please contact Peter Whittington 0n syrahnz@gmail.com or phone on 021 778300 |

Hi All, It's time for Round 2 for the Port Nic Gardeners...in tropical Wairarapa and we have a new date :-) It's all on at Linda and Craig Wellington's fantastic home located between Martinborough and Greytown - I'll provide the exact address closer to the time. Linda is very keen to get us up there and help with some planting and - as David likes to refer to it as - 'light weeding'. Bring your gardening outfit, some gloves and a whole pile of enthusiasm...it's going to be an enjoyable event. Cheers, Brent |

Hi all We are going to relive an event that many of the longer serving members remember as the "Gut Buster". This was a running and walking event around the perimeter fence of the Karori Sanctuary. The Rotary Club of Port Nicholson always had a great turn out of members at this event and ended up being the permanent holders of the District Governors' Silver Platter, awarded to the top performing Rotary Club at the event. We won it 3 times. Of course we won't cover the complete event course, we will only do the 9 kilometres around the fence line. Meet up at the park, where the Scout Den is, at the top of Campbell St, Karori. We head off up the hill and walk around the fence line, covering Wright's Hill, the Wind Turbine, George Denton Park, and the Sanctuary entrance along the way. It will take 2.5 to 3 hours depending on how often and how long the stops to enjoy the views are. A independent description of the track from a running site - "Difficulty: The terrain varies from easy, to mostly intermediate, with some small sections of difficulty. These are generally not technical trails. In the colder (wetter) months you will want shoes with good grip. Wellingtonians will say that the trail is “undulating”, which means it is constantly up and down. It can get cool and gusty on the tops." Come out and have some fun, fresh air, amazing views and great company. As it is Fathers' Day we may get the Ladies to shout the Gentlemen lunch at One Fat Bird in Karori. Please RSVP so we know to wait in case you are running a minute or two late. |

Oct 13, 2019 9:30 AM - 1:00 PM
Our Perambulators' October ramble on Sunday 13th October will be to visit again the Brookfield Outdoor Education Centre at 562 Moores Valley Rd, Wainuiomata, meeting at 9.30 in the carpark beside the main buildings. A chance to experience the wilderness of the Scouts property (5ha bigger than Zealandia) and also for those keen on our Predator Free waterfront initiative to take a close look at Brookfield’s Predator Free project which has been going for several months and is already at 200 kills.
Warwick proposes a different route from our last Perambulator hike - we’ll start with a 30 -40 min walk on the shorter route to Lock Hut which does include a short uphill climb. We’ll stop at Lock Hut for morning tea and to view the completed hut which was under construction last time the Perambulators visited. Following we have several choices of return tracks / routes heading out beyond Lock Hut including possibly experiencing a trapping line – about a further 40mins to an hour, or for those looking for a decent hike a 2hr circuit tramp over the Cameron and Crowther Tracks. Those who are time challenged could return directly to their car from Lock.
There is a day charge for being at Brookfield but Warwick suggests in lieu we contribute a couple of dollars each to purchase of a box trap or two. |

Hello Trappers – and Friends of Trappers
We are at the operations stage of our trapping project and we have had a great response from volunteers to service the traps over the next 3 months as per the table below. Additional volunteers to fill the available slots would be appreciated.
However, there are only a few who know the location of all traps. So - this weekend we will do a walk around with as many Trappers and other volunteers as would like to join us. While anyone servicing the traps needs to have completed the WCC induction, anyone can provide support – and be a trap spotter.
We will do only one walk around but I will send out 2 invitations. One for Saturday and one for Sunday. Please respond to both. The one that suits the most members is the one I’ll lock in and confirm later in the week.
Again - many thanks for your support
Brenda
Please note: I have used Sunday as the service day for the week, but feel free to negotiate an alternative day to suit with your Service Volunteer Partner;
If your allocated day doesn't suit please swap.

A chance to explore Julian and Sue's place and their off the grid culture. Julian is developing a cunning plan to ensure those that went last year will discover new territory. Julian and Sue's place is north of Masterton on the way to Mt Bruce. Kiriwhakapapa Road is off to the left about 16kms from Masterton. Go all the way down this road, about 7kms, almost to the Tararua Forest park. If you get to Mt Bruce you have gone too far on SH2 and missed the turn off.
