BEGIN:VCALENDAR PRODID:-//github.com/ical-org/ical.net//NONSGML ical.net 5.1.4//EN VERSION:2.0 BEGIN:VEVENT DESCRIPTION:Let’s plant trees to help our planet!  Sunday 4 June 1pm I h ope you can join us for our annual tree planting on Sunday 4 June at 1.00p m.  The Rotary Club of Port Nicholson has teamed up with The Friends of T awa's Bush Reserves for the sixth year in a row to plant trees in the Fore st of Tawa\, on the western ridgeline of Tawa.  We will meet at the top o f Broken Hill Road (Porirua) at the entrance gate to the Spicer Landfill b y 1pm.    Our goal is to build on what we have done in the last five yea rs – over 2400 trees in total!  We will continue planting native trees in Tawa to regenerate our native Bush to provide habitat and food for the increasing numbers of native birds\, to make lovely walking areas for us a ll to enjoy\, and to help slow down climate change.  This is open to ever yone including family and friends so please invite lots of people to help.   Interact and Rotaract members are very welcome to join us so please let them know about this opportunity.  Tree planting is for everyone.  You don’t have to be super fit to join us.  There are several jobs to choos e from or you could do some of each such as:  digging holes\; planting tr ees\, setting out trees for planting\, picking up the tree packets for reu sing\, and / or contributing to the afternoon tea.  There are lots of way s to contribute and everybody is welcome to come along. If you would like to take part\, please accept this invitation and provide your contact pho ne number and email address.  I am coordinating the Club’s participatio n and can be reached on 021 265 6220 or email landm.king@xtra.co.nz If yo u’re joining us for the tree planting here are the details: The planting this year will be at the top of Forest of Tawa\, on the western ridgeline of Tawa.    We will meet at the Spicier botanical park at the top of Br oken Hill Road (Porirua) and at the entrance gate to the Spicier landfill by 1pm.  Vehicles can then travel in convoy through the locked gates of the Meridian Road up through the landfill to the top of the ridge line and the parking area. If anyone is coming via public transport then please co ntact me (Lisa King -0212656220) and I will find someone to pick you up an d drive you to the planting site There is no water on the ridge-line so pl ease bring plenty with you There are no toilets near the planting site – there are public toilets in Tawa at the Grassless park at 11 Luckie Stree t Tawa just a minute from the main road that you could stop at on your way to Broken Hill Road At the planting site we will start with a brief intro duction\, health and safety talk and planting demonstration on the site wh en most have arrived so it would be good if we can all get there ready to start on site at 1.00pm. Please bring your own spade and gardening glov es.  If you don’t have a spade feel free to borrow one from a friend or you could help with planting instead.  If you have a spare spade(s)\, pl ease bring it along as not everyone will have one.  I have one spare spad e and spare gloves which I will bring. Wear clothing appropriate to the we ather.  I’ll coordinate afternoon tea.  If you’d like to contribute to the afternoon tea please let me know.
