Update from 2017 Goal Setter Winners
................................................................................. Emily Dwight
I’ve had a great year since I was awarded the scholarship. I had a fantastic time in Scotland, and my time working in the hospice there was invaluable for me as a person, and for my education. This wouldn’t have been possible without your support.
This last weekend I have graduated as a doctor with both and MBChB, and a bachelor of medical science with honours. Please see the photo attached to this email. I’m currently employed by capital coast DHB, and have started work as a house surgeon in general medicine.
I must say, the award really helped me to move on from everything that occurred last year. It offered an opportunity to step back and appreciate how much I’d achieved despite the adversities I faced, and I cannot thank you enough for that.
Hope that all is well at your end, and please let me know if there are ways I can help or be involved in rotary. It would be lovely to be at next year’s award ceremony.

My 2017 went very well. I passed all my university papers (some better than others!) and I'm on track to complete the last of my law papers over the course of 2018. In fact, I'm in the middle of summer school study now so not the most restful of summers but it is well worth it to cut some time off of my degree!
Highlights of the year include my 'promotion' at the Soup Kitchen to a Team Leader position, and undergoing the training for that! I was also awarded a Quentin Baxter Memorial Scholarship at law school to assist in funding my 2018 studies. I've become an alumni mentor through the First Foundation programme (I was a class of 2012 First Foundation scholar) of a first foundation scholar who is also a St Catherine's student (my old college).
I can't thank you and the rest of the club for the help you gave me this year.

For me it has been an amazing year I have just completed 15 full time weeks of clinical placement successfully with excellent grades. My most recent was a 3-month placement in the Hutt Hospital Operating Theatres which I loved. I have completed my Bachelor of Nursing Degree and have just sat the State Final Examination to become registered. The results of this exam won’t be known until late December early January.
In 2018, I will be seeking employment in the Wellington district to work as a registered nurse. With the funds received from the Goal Setter Award I purchased a much needed new computer which I have used to write dozens of assignments and power point presentations as part of my degree. The money was well spent and appreciated and will continue to benefit me as I continue to study while working, aiming to work towards my Nursing Masters. I finished my degree with an ‘A’ average and am very proud of my achievements and thank you all again for the part the Port Nicholson Rotary Club has played in helping me achieve my goals.
I hope all the members and yourself have a safe and happy Christmas and New Year period. Thanks again and all the best.
